In the Mood

I went trick or treating!! :D I was so surprised--I didn't expect to go trick-or-treating again. I mean, 16 is a bit old, but I still had a fantastic time.

I'd worn my costume to school, kinda. I was a pirate. :D (I was going to see the new pirate movie! It's rated "arr!") I bought myself an eyepatch at Target, and that morning we drew a skull and cross-bones on it with white-out. lol. And I had my foam sword. XD And I also had this long brown trenchcoat thing that I got from my great-aunt's house, which looked pretty good. So that afternoon we went to Perin's for Halloween. And Perin has a little sister, Zenobia, and we took her trick-or-treating! And we went as well :) Emily had her neon green wig, which she'd worn all day, and Perin had the stunning combination of a leather biker's jacket and a jester's hat, and Katie borrowed another trenchcoat and a fedora (not a fez. I always call them fezzes (now that's a weird word)) and was a gangster.

There were almost no kids out, so all the people were really eager to get rid of their candy--they were giving us whole handfuls. We just went on 2 blocks that were a bit smaller than a city block, and got half a plastic bag full of candy! It rocked! Although I should really be careful--the tooth on the other side is starting to hurt now. . . >.<

On Wednesday I got home and decided that I'd watch Almost Famous while I did my homework, so I did. (my mom had watched it earlier with headphones on while I was at the computer and I was intrigued) I loved it! It was great! The kid playing William, Patrick Fugit, was adorable :D It was really neat. I actually kinda liked Penny, which is out of character for me--she's not the kind of character that I usually like. So last night after we got home I watched it again (I started at around 11:30 and finished at around 1:30) and tonight I think I'm going to watch it yet again with my mom (and probably my social studies homework ;). I wanna get myself the soundtrack.

So yesterday was Friday, and we had Academons! :D It was so much fun! It was all returning members, and we did buzzers (with questions that we'd actually already had, but ah well) and Ms. R read the questions and Friedman was hardly there at all and we were joking and laughing a lot and everything. We messed with the attendance sheet, giving everyone nick-names and titles and stuff. We had an Emperor, a "his royal highness", etc.

Then Katie went home, cos she didn't have rehearsal. But Perin did, the sopranos had a rehearsal for this funny song that they're in and I watched that. It was very amusing. Then me and Perin went to the shopping center to wait for Em to get back from Drivers Ed, then we went to get dinner. Me and Perin went to Subway, Em got pizza, and we met back at the school.

Last night was "All Night Strut", which is a show that was being put on by the theater company of the guy who directs the musical (and was also my english teacher in 7th and 8th grade) and had 4 cast members--one of them being the Choir teacher! yay M! So everyone went to see it. XD It was all these 40's songs (hence the subject of entry), and sometimes they swing danced and stuff. It was soooo awesome!!! The audience was very enthusiastic! I had a great time. It rocked.

In English class, we're about to read Chaucer, so we're watching a Knight's Tale. (btw, a girl at our school that I know is Heath Ledger's second cousin. Her dad and his dad are cousins, and she sees him everyone once in a while and stuff. it's neat) I like it. . . but I don't really like Jocelyn. A major part of this is the anachronisms, with her clothes and her hair and stuff. I hate that. It bothers me, so I get irked whenever I see her. And also, it's kinda like the thing with Penny Lane. It's not a character that I can relate with at all, not the sort of character that I tend to like. (i love her little side-kick, though!!)
The blacksmith, however, completely and utterly rocks my socks. I love her!!! She's so cool!

And I've redesigned my journal and got myself new icons :) It's a Halloween layout, but I'm going to keep it up for a bit ;) I like it.

I slept til noon today, and then spent pretty much all day on the computer. oops. It was fun and relaxing, though.

Hey, it's okay to keep on trick-or-treating! I know people in college who went out and did it. I did it thoughout high school. Every year I told myself I was too old, but then at the very last minute me and my friends would decide to do it anyway and have to come up with costumes.

I don't think I've ever been a pirate. But I want an eyepatch!!

I think there are less and less kids trick-or-treating every year. I mean, we barely got 30 kids according to Mark. It used to be a lot more. More parents are taking their children to corporate-sponsored places for Halloween, trick-or-treating at malls or school or stuff. It's kind of sad. In another ten years, the practice of going from door to door may have died out completely.
:(

My mum loved Almost Famous. I've never seen it, but she's told me the entire story. It sounds good. I'll have to catch it one of these days. I did see A Knight's Tale, or rather, I forced myself to sit through the first bit and when it got too unbearable, I looked away. I really didn't like that movie. It was being shown on the plane on the way back from Italy last October (along with Cats & Dogs - ugh!). Oh well, to each their own, right?

I like your new look for your journal, although my eyes went a bit cross-eyed with the black spiderweb lines on the orange background. Spiffy!

that's hot :D maybe I should keep on trick-or-treating :) We saw some older kids out, but they didn't wear costumes. That pisses me off.

I was thinking of getting a cloth eyepatch that I'd wear under my glasses, but I could only find a plastic one--it worked quite well over my glasses, though. I just had to balance it so it wouldn't kinda flip up on me.

Yeah, trick-or-treating seems to be fading. everyone is so paranoid now. :-/ It's too bad. We were lucky that we grew up when it was still extremely common. It was great to go out walking and see all these other people on the street and stuff. :)
My friend's mom doesn't do Halloween, cos, well, basically cos she's a very illogical woman. I know this from other things, not just the Halloween thing. I think her reasoning is that because they're Jewish and it's a Christian holiday. But it's not. gyaah! She doesn't give out candy or anything. Like, last year they just ignored the doorbell, but before that, she had the whole family hide in the basement (!!!!) and this year she wanted them out of the house completely. We've had to like, bribe her to get the friend to go trick-or-treating with us. DX

I think that if I were watching Knight's Tale in any other situation, I would like it much less. I'm just really glad to be watching a movie rather than working. Anachronisms like that and when they mess with history to make it more exciting and popularize it and stuff really, really pisses me off. But I still love the blacksmith girl. lol.

Yeah, the older kids who don't even TRY piss me off, too.

It's a sad sad world where our children are going to be growing up without trick-or-treating. Damn razorblade scares! And I know some crazy Halloween-haters, too. Or at least, I know of them. Some people (mainly of the fundamentalist variety) think that Halloween is a holiday that promotes Devil worship and children who participate in it are leaving their souls open to be raped by demons. And other icky stuff like that. TOO fucking weird.

I stopped watching the movie around about the time of the jousting match with the spectators singing Queen. *shudder* Now, I like Queen, don't get me wrong, but Mediaeval peoples singing it? No, no, and no again! So I don't think I watched long enough to meet the blacksmith girl. Sorry. ^_^'

yeah. . . Halloween is just a holiday for fun. It has its roots in a lot of different things, but now it's just a time where you can dress up and be someone else and have fun with your friends and get candy. ::sigh::

yes, that was very odd. The song always reminds me of Might Ducks though, so I was happy to just sing along. lol. That was really early in the movie :)

As I'm sure Katie or I have told you, I just finished doing Chaucer with my medieval lit. class (in Middle English nonetheless), and wrote a paper on the prologue. so anyitime you want further insights into these characters, or want some college criticism into the Tales to confuse everyone or contradict the teacher, just ask!.

yes, I have been told :D but I contradict peopel enough. Last year I loved it, because I loathed the teacher (as you know) and really didn't like the class at all. . . but this year, with this teacher, I feel bad. (i'm still not overly fond of the class, but whatever) I feel like I'm just being difficult. I'm not really trying to. . .

Woah! Nice Icon.

oooh, that's such a hot costume! do you have pictures?

sucks that no one recognizes it :( I know a couple people at my school who read Penny Arcade (I absolutely despise them, but that's beside the point) but no one that I haven't introduced to it that reads sluggy, far as I can tell :( more people should read sluggy.
