Short update from VH1
Jan. 2nd, 2009 10:04 pmI'm watching VH1's top 100 Hard Rock songs. It's weird because I either LOVE the songs or I hate them and have to change the channel. It helps that they're probably using a more lax definition of hard rock than I would? Cos More Than Feeling is an AWWWWWWWESOME song but it's not that hard, is it? You Give Love a Bad Name was #20. Kashmir was 21 and Blitzkreig Bop was 25. AND BON JOVI WAS 20. O.o That is odd. And hilarious. And a testament to how irresistible Bon Jovi is. Of course, Whole Lotta Love was in the promo, so Zep will have one of the top spots. My god, Led Zeppelin are so awesome. Also the Ramones. Dang, I still don't own that Ramones DVD. For Tommy alone I should get it, I love Tommy. Tommy and the accents. And, you know, the way the Ramones are totally awesome. I can't remember where "Hot For Teacher" was but I hope Van Halen will be in this again. [For those of you keeping track at home, Running With the Devil was somewhere here in the top 20 and Whole Lotta Love was #3. Smoke On the Water was also in the top 20. Irresistible! I got really pumped when ABC was air guitaring to it. XD If you were wondering, #1 is Guns n Roses, Welcome to the Jungle.]
Man, I need to listen to more Rush.
So yeah, there's been a few songs that I just don't know - I don't listen to enough hair metal, sadly. So those are ok. But a lot of the songs are either songs or artists that I adore, or else I find it so horrible and sometimes hideous that I have to change the channel. Shock rock? Not my thing. A lot of this stuff is not my thing. I have very little middle ground when it comes to hard rock, apparently. I love when music really rocks out but I don't like a harsh, violent sound, I guess. And I don't like the image of a lot of the groups, I just don't want to look at them or hear their lyrics. And a lot of the newer groups I just find obnoxious. XD Also I like a few songs that people call metal, but in general I just never enjoy heavy metal. It once made me cry in public and not in the way music is supposed to make you cry.
Hahahaha, Twisted Sister. They're from Long Island. :D It's so funny, Dee Snider has such a thick accent. Apparently heavy metal thrives here? I would love to hear a conversation between Dee and Marky Ramone.
I'm also watching Shawshank Redemption - not simultaneously, of course. I took a break to watch the last 50 songs of this thing. I looooove Shawshank Redemption. I was saying to Katie it's basically because I'm in love with Andy Dufresne. As are we all, no? Anyway, yeah. Usually I like lighter fare but I think Shawshank Redemption is amazing.
