guingel: (fBatman)
OK, I'm totally about to go to sleep because I'm super-tired (I also still don't have an apartment but that's as expected - the place wasn't really set up for two bedrooms) but I just discovered parkour and free running and they're SO COOL. And they're making me really excited because all of a sudden, Batman actually existing seems a lot more likely.

Free running, which I kind of love the name of, is a sort of performance in which acrobatic moves are done while interacting with an urban environment - bouncing off buildings and jumping on things and all that sort of thing. I guess not necessarily urban, I saw a guy do it in a mall and stuff.

And parkour is the non-arty version - where you use your body to cover ground as efficiently as possible, just climbing over and around and on things. And I watched a video of it and these guys were jumping from building to building and all that and I was like "holy shit it's like Batman!" At the moment the sort of direct, focused nature of parkour sort of appeals to me more than the artistic, performance-oriented nature of free running, in terms of watching stuff.

Anyway, I found this because I've been watching Ninja Warrior waaaaaay too much lately, both on G4 and on youtube. I have a big crush on Makoto Nagano, he's both amazing at ninja warrioring and seems just kinda cool and awesome and has a really good attitude. He's one of the only two people to ever win the regular competition, in the 17th version. It's AMAZING. Sadly that's not the G4 video with subtitles, but I guess that means there's no logo in the corner! He just tears through the first and second stages like they're nothing.

So yeah, in the 20th competition this American dude did the best, Levi Meeuwenberg, and he's a freerunner, so that's how I found out about it. But I couldn't find a video of him completing stage 2. What gives, internet?

I also spent the evening working on forms to get hired. So complicated!! Tomorrow I call more realtors. :/ Oh, and former boss!Helen to talk to her about her commute. And to thank her for helping me get hired, as I gave her as a reference. She's really awesome and I both like and respect her! :D

I had other stuff to say and it was awesome but now I can't remember so neener.

ETA: I don't think this is it but I want to mention it anyway - I saw the building where my dad grew up today! He lived on the second floor in the back. And I saw the street where he played stickball and his elementary school and the movie theater where he saw Superman! (The movie, not the dude.) This was all in Bensonhurst. :) And we drove past from a distance where my grandparents used to live, in Brighton Beach (after my dad moved out). Oh yeah, getting my Brooklyn geography down. We used to visit them every weekend so it brought back memories. Actually, the traffic on the drive into Brooklyn brought back even sharper memories. ::sigh:: Luckily I'll be using subways and trains to get around, like a cool kid. But yeah, it was really really neat to see all those places from my dad's childhood. I'd always imagined the apartment building he grew up in was like the one my grandparents lived in and it wasn't, it just had 6 apartments and stuff. Still the largest building on his block, though. And he explained the rules of stickball to me! So if anyone wants to know, I'm your gal. :D
