So, I wrote fic. Real fic, this time, with a plot and characterization, that I'm going to actually link here because I actually want my friends to read it! Those of you who don't like TOKIO (::glares::) are excused. Let me know what you think? Comments will make me feel shiny and happy! (Yes. I'm choosing to forsake my dignity in this situation. :D)

Five Times TOKIO Protects Kokubun Taichi

I confidently declare it to be one of the best English-language, Taichi-centric TOKIO fics out there. Perhaps even in the top five. XD Well, actually, I'm mostly impressed that I finished it. It's just sort of normal, but hopefully it's cute and amusing! You guys don't get more summary than that because I'm expecting you to at least click on the link out of your love for me. ::beams::

Although, and this is something twin!Katie and I discuss a lot - TOKIO don't really protect Taichi so much as throw him off bridges and blow him up and let him get the sniffles. (Which, I belatedly realized, would have been an adorable section - someone snuggling him so he didn't get too cold. But I like what I ended up with, so I guess it's OK.) So we think they're forfeiting their Taichi privileges and that we should confiscate him. If I had a Taichi, I would take super-good care of him!

I've been sick and sort of sad lately, but I think I'm on the mend and last night I talked to my dad and he was incredibly sweet and helpful (I talked to my mom and she was sweet but not helpful - I knew as I called her that she wasn't the parent for the situation. When I'm upset, sometimes I need a specific one of my parents different approaches to solving problems) and he gave me perspective and support and love and I cried a lot (and dripped snot on the glittens katie made me. :( Whoops. It's hard walking in the rain, talking on a cell phone, crying, while having a cold so i'm already a little more fluid-filled than usual) and felt a lot better afterwards.

Also for Japanese history class she assigns us a lot of little tiny biography thingies, and we read one about this family where they managed to raise 14 children to adulthood and send them all to college. It was really sweet and I got quite sentimental about it as I read it at breakfast yesterday morning. It reminded me a lot of Cheaper by the Dozen, which is one of my favorite books. But yeah, it was a lot of the parents working together and they just seemed like a really good family, somehow. Although the boys all grew up weird. XD Oh well.

Lots of work coming up over the next two weeks. D: Two midterms and two papers. But I'm totally going to be healthy and I'll get lots done this weekend. Well, ok, one of the papers is due on Tuesday, so I will really have to get that done. And I have to start research for the other one, even though it's only 3-5 pages. And I have to start studying for my first midterm. ::whimper:: It's not more than I can do, but it's more than I can motivate myself to do.

Discussed Birth of a Nation and the director, D. W. Griffith, in my American Pop Culture class. Two words: Crazy. Sauce. Also, geez. I'd only heard "It's a really racist movie." I DID NOT REALIZE THE HEROES WERE THE KLAN! "Really" doesn't quite cover it! I would like about 14 more reallys added to that sentence!

OK, yeah. That's about it, because all I've been doing the last couple days is moping and being sick. XD I did watch How I Met Your Mother with friend!Steph, it was excellent. And the two of us are planning to go to a pub (bar? pub? what is it, Monkey?) in town tomorrow night, by which point I am confident that I will be healthy enough to drink alcohol again and I will order cider which I have been missing since I left England and it's prodigious supply of Strongbow.

Being sick sucks, but I'm glad you're starting to feel a bit better. ♥

And I totally can't support your claim as to whether or not it's one of the top TOKIO fics in the fandom (as I really don't know anything about TOKIO except that Nagase is awesome), but the fic is all kinds of adorable. :)

From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Yeah, I always get really angry at my body when I'm sick. Like, "What the heck, you're letting the team down!!"

XD The claim is based on the fact that there are only about 5 TOKIO fics in total. N-none of which are Taichi-centric, that I can think of. I'm not actually that confident in my writing! But I'm really glad you liked it - and thank you for reading even though you don't know TOKIO much! :D

I should know TOKIO, since I have you and another big TOKIO fan on my flist, but I'm slightly nervous at jumping to a new band. I can't name anyone besides Nagase and that's only because IWGP is my all-time favourite drama hands down. :D;;

From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Don't be nervous! :D TOKIO are easy to get into! There's only five of them, and they're all very different! (I'm sorry. I can't resist the urge to pimp TOKIO! But this is hopefully less intimidating than the pimp post!)

Taichi (http://pics.livejournal.com/guingel/pic/00010c06/g7) is cute and just. . . cute. I can't even handle how cute he is. But he's also good at talking, he hosts lots of shows, and he's really peppy and he goofs around a lot. He talks a lot about how immature he is, but he writes these really sweet j-webs that are also, well, cute, but also funny and thoughtful. He's probably the most likely to hang out with the other members. And he's friends with, like, everyone in Johnny's. And he secretly wishes that he was tall like Mabo and Nagase. I think that if there was some sort of magic where I could just have a member of Johnny's, to hang out with or whatever, I would want Taichi. I want a Taichi all the time. XD His cuteness cannot be described in words!

Then Yamaguchi (http://pics.livejournal.com/guingel/pic/00016gzf/g7) is the burliest, manliest manfest in Johnny's. XD But he's also, like. He's really chill and laid back, totally a surfer, but he's also totally silly and laughs a lot, and he has the cutest laugh and smile wrinkles and just always seems really good-natured about everything. And he's the bassist, which is really really hot. He's the most likely to be seen on their show where they work on a farm, building a fence or plowing a field or making glass or something ridiculous like that, but he also hosts a show where it's him and a bunch of cross-dressers and he teases them all the time.

Mabo (http://pics.livejournal.com/guingel/pic/0000ggcs/g7) is like. . . the perfect man. I don't even know. He's so crazy, you can really see the strong sense of "even though I'm an idol, I want to be myself" thing in him. So there's this whole really intense, artistic side of his personality - he directs their PVs and stuff. And that's the guy who has weird hair and wears glasses or shades a lot and is incredibly quirky. But then there's the silly side, because all of TOKIO have them, of course. And Mabo can certainly dork out with the best of them. But then there's the other side where everyone is always talking about how Mabo is really, really considerate, that he's always thinking about others and if they're happy and doing OK, and he seems like one of the most mature people in Johnny's. (Just cos, like, their job is to stay sort of immature and fun!) Also, he's the drummer. ::swoons::

Then. There's Leader (http://pics.livejournal.com/guingel/pic/0000h3zd/g7). My favorite ridiculous (http://pics.livejournal.com/guingel/pic/0001p7wg/g7) person (http://pics.livejournal.com/guingel/pic/0000kppx/g7). XD There's no one like Leader in Johnny's because people like Leader aren't supposed to be in Johnny's. He's just. Not. Cool. He's an excellent guitarist and if he wasn't in JE he might be a good-looking guy, but he's like, so unfortunate. XD There are all these stories about terrible things that have happened to Leader, and he's a really incredibly sweet and mild guy, so TOKIO will tell these stories about how he ended up living in the costume closet at JE and he'll just smile and say quietly "it was ok." He's also a little hard to describe in words, it's easier in stories. But he's really, like, easy to love because he's one of the most relatable ones, you know? And he actually is such a sweetie. :D
From: [identity profile] sabaism.livejournal.com
Is Taichi the one who hosts SC Premium? I've only watched it a few times, so I could be wrong, but the look the same? XD;;

But was Leader the one who was just random and all over the place during the countdown? Like, not even singing, but just messing around with anything and anyone possible? ^^;;
From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Questions are good! They make me feel like you're actually interested instead of just being "tl;dr"! XD

Taichi is indeed the host of SCP. Although I find he comes across somewhat differently there than he does usually. He's a bit less charming on SCP - I think it's a kouhai thing. XD I think he's more like himself when people from his generation are the guests.

Leader. . . TOKIO all really mess around a lot during Countdown, although Leader actually seems a bit less likely than the others to do so. This most recent one? Leader sang Miso Soup at the recent one, and Mabo had a ridiculous brown mohawk. I can't remember anything else in particular that the others did. . . but if there's a certain incident you can name I'll definitely check it out! (I love Countdown, so any excuse to watch it again!)

I fail at being concise and not intimidating! XD

Since you already know Nagase, I'll just say that I adore him and he's the most gorgeous thing ever, and also that he's the hugest, hugest, hugest dorkgasm. And the baby of the group and not that bright and they tease him a little bit. Or a lot. But he's good with computers and he's also an excellent musician! And he has a crazy sense of humor. Actually, he'll laugh at almost everything, this huge crazy gorgeous laugh. Ugh. And he's 6'1". I want!!

OK, sorry that got so long and out of control. XD I really love them all - I can't even name a favorite, or I can name a favorite for about two hours, and then in the next hour I'll be watching something else and someone else will be my favorite. So I couldn't resist the chance to talk about them! XD

But if you're at all interested, I hope you check out the pimp post, because it gives links to videos and is sort of intended to help get new fans started. Although there's actually a lot more TOKIO out there than there was when I made it! :D Yaaaay! Except not on youtube. -_- But if you go to the bottom of the pimp there's a collection of video clip recs that might be good. A bunch of them are streaming, some are for download.
From: [identity profile] sabaism.livejournal.com
Haha, it's good that you can go on and on about them! It shows that you really do like them! :)

But I think I'll try and check the pimp post if I have time! It's just it's the end of the quarter and I'm stuck with trying to get my grades up at the last minute. XD;;
From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Ahh, I totally understand! And I've been told the post is a bit time-consuming to work through. Good luck with your grades!

It is a bar, though it has good food, so it should be a pub, but you're in America now!

From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
see, but I googled it and some website, presumably in America, totally said it was a pub!!

Hope you are feeling better, buddy! I was going to invite you for a Thursday '1776' night, but you'll be having more fun out in the world at your pub/bar! ;D Are you guys going to Packard's?

Date: 2008-02-28 05:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Packard's indeed! Would you care to join us? As it seems obvious that you have no plans. XD We're going to wait for Dwiggy to get here, which I'm told will be around seven. Maybe you could come over earlier and we could watch, uh, some of 1776? :D

Date: 2008-02-28 07:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bastet88.livejournal.com
Sorry, dude, contrary to your logic, I have a Sophian board meeting tonight. I was going to propose '1776' post-Sophian. :) Are you just going to be at Packard's all night? I may stop by later in the evening if so.

Anyway, have a rollicking good time if I don't see you!

From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
tarnation! Well, how about I bring my cell phone and try to keep it somewhere where I'll feel it, and you can call when you get out? We'll probably linger for a bit but i don't really know.

Also, any thoughts on the career fair thingie?

Date: 2008-02-28 08:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bastet88.livejournal.com
That sounds like an excellent plan! Do you mind if Mike comes? He had a rough computer-breaking-down kind of day so he might need a stiff one tonight. :)

I really do think you should go to the career fair, but I'm afraid I can't go. It would be too tight in between work and me having to get my dad at the airport. I really hope you can find someone else to go with you, though, it might prove profitable. I've heard good things about these fairs. Also, have you tried idealist.org? It's all non-for-profit job-y goodness.

Date: 2008-02-28 09:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Um, ok, but just keep in mind that that's a lot of couples for me to deal with.

I totally understand - that would be really tight, so don't worry about it.

I'm not sure if I'm going to make much of an effort to get there because the CDO is systematically destroying my life - I was supposed to go today and get my resume fixed up, but they cancelled (after I had finally managed to fall back to sleep after waking up really early). So now I apparently would be bringing a flawed resume to the party. So I'll go if I find someone else who's interested, but I won't go through the tsuris of getting their on my own - but I will go to their non-profit industry workshop, which is either tomorrow (possibly during the job fair, which would be ridiculous) or Wednesday during lunch which would require leaving work early but oh well, or next friday. So when I figure out when that is. Uhm. -_- WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO DESTROY ME, CDO???

Helloo. I know I'm popping up rather suddenly, but I think I like you. You like nerd humor and Tokio and other awesome things like that. Also we just watched Birth of a Nation in my Film as Art class yesterday and I thought it was weird you mentioned it.

You also use terms such as 'crazy sauce' and that makes me like you even more. :D And so my question is, can I friend you? I'm no where near the awesome-level you're at, but I want to be. :D :D

I have to admit, I picked up crazysauce from Dinosaur Comics. Which has actually had far too great an impact on the way I talk. >.> (See here (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000537.html), here (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000687.html), and here (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000439.html) - you have to hover your mouse for the alt-text to get the full effect, too. XD)

Anyway, friend away! Flattery is incredibly effective in this sort of situation. XD And I'm happy to have more TOKIO (and nerd joke) fans on my friends list!

Ahaha, I always wondered where those dinosaur things came from. I thought I was about to go to sleep, but now I'm going to be helplessly browsing through those archives. I've been using the term awesome sauce for some time now, but I think I like crazy sauce and burnsauce a lot more. Especially burnsauce. XD

Yay, new friend! <3

DINOSAUR COMICS IS AWESOME!! XD I'm always happy to spread it around. It seriously cracks me up, and yes, reading them will steal your life. There's 1000+ comics, and I've read through the archive multiple times. It's terrible. I actually made a small comment with recs of some of my favorites for [livejournal.com profile] darkeyedwolf a while ago, it's here (http://darkeyedwolf.livejournal.com/245448.html?thread=11865544). :D

And a few others, copied from an entry I made a while ago:
One of my faves (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000136.html).
For this one (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000604.html), the alt-text (hover your mouse and don't look at it in Firefox) made me laugh til I cried.
SO FUNNY (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000467.html). Seriously.
A Smith-appropriate one (http://www.qwantz.com/archive/000514.html). (Smith being my ultra-liberal all-women's college.)

OK. ::coughcough:: I'll stop now. XD And go read all the comics I just linked to. >.>

Haha! Pimping is like my weird talent that's been lying in wait my whole life. The "a href" tag is my best friend! ;)

I kind of have a huge crush on Ryan North. XD He's over 6 foot tall, has strawberry blond hair, and is Canadian! And is, of course, absolutely brilliant!
