ARGH!!!! I've just sort of discovered a certain amount of the internet comics community. Not in a big way, but just sort of checking out the blog/message board sections of some creators' websites. And while I was at Peter David's, I thought, hey, I'll search for any mention of Young Justice, which is my favorite work by PAD--in fact, my favorite comic book ever, tragically cancelled at issue #55. Even though it was selling well (which i just found out from PAD--but I KNEW it! How could YJ have been doing badly?). It was replaced with a Teen Titans title by Geoff Johns that actually I was too depressed to read. Just seeing the new Teen Titans book made me feel sad. I really still miss Young Justice. I loved it. I really looked forward to it every month, I was so happy whenever a new YJ came out. The writing was excellent, the art was amazing, and the characters were charming and loveable. Until they got caught up in Our Worlds at War, their adventures were exciting and entertaining without being too heavy. It was just fantastic.

Peter David explained why it was cancelled--because of the Teen Titans animated series!! ARGH!!!! :( They wanted the comic to be more in line with the series, apparently. It's just so sad. A really great comic got cancelled to help push the TV series. So sad and pointless. It was so great. Also, from what I've seen of the series and the new TT comic, the series is far closer to YJ in tone than it is to TT.

Also, even before the whole infinite crisis thing, they essentially killed Impulse. I really. . . am angry at Geoff Johns. I have to get my information about recent events in the DCU from wikipedia because I've just been completely separated from this whole Infinite Crisis thing--I heard they killed Ted and since then I've been trying not to hear anything else. . . but now I'm trying to get back up to date but I might just wait longer and see if things get better. Because, uh. . . apparently they. . . got rid of the Speed Force? Bart says the Speed Force was destroyed. The SPEED FORCE!! I mean, apparently Mark Waid is a part of this whole weird DC editorial thingie, but it's really like Geoff Johns is peeing all over Mark Waid's work. And PAD and Todd's, too. I mean, I had already had to stop reading the Flash and JSA when Johns was writing them even before the whole TT thing.

I have no idea what's going on in the DCU these days. And I've tried to get caught up, but this infinite crisis thing is too complicated--I can't get it without extensive research, and it makes me too sad to research. But I hate not knowing what's happening in the DCU! I love these characters. Wally has disappeared, apparently? Bart is old? Superboy is dead? OK, I wasn't that attached to SB, actually.

Anyway. I'm trying to stay optimistic. And of course, if I don't like what DC does in the near future, things are bound to change in the next 5 years or so, I just have to wait.

In other comics news, I was also at the website of Chuck Dixon. What a guy. It was funny to see him making jokes about how prolific he is, because Katie and I used to joke about that all the time. I think at one point he was writing Robin, Birds of Prey, Nightwing, and Batman. He definitely wrote all of them, but I'm not sure if all at the same time. Those are some of the biggest names in DC. It's crazy. And it was funny because they all (actually, I wasn't reading Batman--but the other three) had really bizarre storylines at the same time. I can't remember what they were. Perhaps the time travel in BoP? And there was that thing with Timmy with the cannibals. . . but that might have been later. At any rate, we noticed that all these comics were by Chuck Dixon (whose name still evokes the Batman crowd to me--there's probably a word for them. . . Batgang?) and thought that maybe the strain of writing so many comics at once made him go a little bit loco! It was actually probably soon after that that Devin Grayson (::giggles:: Hey, she recently stopped writing Nightwing. Dang. Oh well, she was doing mean things to poor Dick.) started writing Nightwing. Right, anyway. At his photo page he said "Proof Chuck is indeed one man and not a room full of writers... contrary to the opinions of some fans and artists." XD And he had a couple of fax covers from Scott McDaniel (I adore their work together on Nightwing! Apparently they're both quite Christian. I'm having a hard time getting my mind around that.) joking about Scott's inability to keep up with Chuck's writing.

Also, Chuck favors Hawaiian print shirts. So cute.

I've just finished rereading JLA: Year One, by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson. I love that book. The art is just gorgeous. Barry Kitson knows his stuff. My god. And it's just such a great comic. So many good hero-y moments, and great character development, really sweet. I started rereading it thinking that I'd just skim through, cos I've read it so many times before. But it was actually long enough since I'd last read it that I could actually sit down and really read it, and enjoy it. Of course, it took a long time and I kept starting before bed and not being able to put it down.

But, jeez. I really love Mark Waid's work. And I saw him at Comic Con, he was one of the creators in the fans vs. writers comics trivia panel. It was hilarious! He was so funny. ::swoons:: But really, I love all his work on The Flash, I love Life Story of the Flash with a firey passion, I love JLA: Year One, I love Impulse: Reckless Youth. I actually. . . haven't read Kingdom Come. But. . . I hear it's really good? XD I actualy wasn't crazy about his JLA run, but I really enjoyed his Brave and the Bold! He is without a doubt the reason why the Flash is my favorite superhero! He really does an amazing job with classic superheroes. Particularly Barry Allen! ::cuddles Barry:: Heck, I wanna cuddle the whole Flash family. Bless them and their superspeed! OK, I don't like Jesse Quick.

Anyways. I took my Jewish Texts and Traditions exam today. I think it went ok. I did not, however, work on my physics paper at all. Instead, I slept all evening. From 7 to 9. You can't sleep from 7 to 9!! Or at least, I can't. WHich is why I'm up at 3:45. Eep. Tomorrow, I have to write this paper and pack. XP. I feel like I should try to write some stuff now. Oy. Physics papers. not cool. I'm sort of intimidated by the mere concept. Wave/particle duality, quantumization, discreteness of energy levels, indistinguishability, Pauli's Exclusion Principle, chemical properties of matter. I just have to have a page on each and I've got the necessary word count! ::nervous laughter::

Also, I have to write about comics here because otherwise I just talk to [livejournal.com profile] shadowflute about them, and that's not fair because she doesn't read comics. XD
