mini random stuffage, real updates pending

I need more friends. I'm always wanting to talk to people and share things and there's never anyone there. Which is actually why I'm here. And probably why a lot of my journal entries get written. ::sigh:: I am a sad little person. Sad as in pathetic, not sad as in unhappy. Although I am getting edgy at the delay with my AP scores. I went to the college board website--"Most AP Grade Reports are sent by mid-July. Some reports take longer to process because of problems with identification information or the late arrival of materials from the testing location. Contact AP Services if you have not received a grade report by August 15." ::gasp!:: I can't wait until August 15!! There'd better not be any identification problems. Wow, my finger just starting compulsively tapping on my knee. Laura! You're going to have to wait until at least 3 tomorrow! I haunt the mail at this time of year. Luckily I'm at work all day, so it's not as bad as last year. ::sigh:: Want my scores.

And at the same time, don't want them.

Work is good. I have the week's updates, but copying them from the floppy is a pain because I can only do it on dad's computer downstairs, none of the other's (wow, we have way too many computers--especially now that Katie and I have our school ones) have floppy drives.

18 tomorrow! legal! woo!! I can start leaving feedback without having to worry about people saying "you're too young to read this porn, I'm locking all my fics". I've had problems before. :-/

This is the big exciting one for me. 21 doesn't mean anything, I'm not interested in drinking.

I need to wrap Katie's presents!

And I need to prepare for Comic Con. :D Hot. Ness. lol. So squeaky excited happy. Eliza Dushku! Particularly exciting because I wasn't expecting her. But not only do I need to pack and everything, I need to get caught up on comic books! Read Swamp Thing Vol. 2. . . well. Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol. 2. Whatever. There's a series title with volume 2 in the name, I think, so I wanted to specify. And oh, it was cool. Need more! But it's soooo exciting, because there's a series of really, really good comic books that I've wanted to read for a long time, that I haven't yet! It's still ahead of me! :D

Oh, and what I was going to say when I started this entry, is that I just kind of realized that I can watch DVDs here! On my computer! Rockage! :) I haven't yet, though. . .

I last took AP exams in 1996, so I don't remember how long it takes to get the results. I definitely had them before I started college on August 28th, so *shrug*

Yay! Happy birthday! :)

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-17 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Welll, in previous years mine have got here around the middle of july--but to me, that means 14-17, and last year I got it the 21st! I can't get them to 21st this year. . . I'd be so nervous that they'd come while I was at Comic Con--I'm leaving the 22. I really want them on Monday--or today, but I'm not holding my breath ;)

The year before, they came on the 19th. I don't know if the more APs you take, the longer it takes to get them to you? That'd suck, I took six XD

Livejournals are so good for this sort of thing!

Also, thanks :)

This is going to sound weird but... I have no memory of my AP results arriving at all. In fact, I never even counted all those AP classes I took in high school towards any part of my college career. So I can't help you with the worry about how long the results are taking, sorry.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Ahh, reading porn legally, I remember when that finally happened to me... (somehow it made reading the stuff just slightly less thrilling, tho...) *snuggles you*

I meant to reread a lot of my trade collections of various comics in preparation for Comic Con and buying new trades, but what with downloading all new comics with Bit Torrent I have not got around to it and I fear that I shall not have the chance to read a lot before the con rolls around. Alas. But! I AM going to try and compile a list of things I want to check out, things I want to buy, things that I know I MUST HAVE, and things that I might get if they're cheap enough. Just to, you know, orgazine stuff in my head. Yes.

(PS: I told you to bring food, but do not try to bring fruit. California has strict laws about outside fruit coming into the state, so don't even try.)

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-17 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow--well, the arrival of the Euro one will stick in my head because I was so very happy :) This isn't late yet, and won't really be late unless it's not there when we get back from comic con. I just wish they really would come in the middle of july!

thanks :)

I've been reading porn since i was 14, so it's pretty normal anyway. At first we were really jumpy (katie used to read porn as much as me--now she's just into sea & sky. . . and xander/lindsey, yay, so there's not that much that she's interested in. plus, she's just not as big a smut fan) but now, even before I moved upstairs, I was pretty relaxed about it. lol. I'm just so blasé about porn ;)

Yeah, I'm definitely going through all the Young Justice back issues we need, because hopefully we'll be able to find some of those? I'm just really behind on all the ones that have come out--we keep buying them, and I keep not reading them. I'm months behind now, I think. I didn't even realize that Timmy wasn't Robin anymore!! ::sniffles:: I'm not a Spoiler fan.

Check. no fruit. I was thinking granola bars and stuff like that.

so much to do! and so little time. . . work is so inconvenient! Plus, it's all icky and sticky here. But not 100 degrees, thank heavens!!

[identity profile] cloudtrader.livejournal.com 2004-07-19 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I didn't want to get out of college too fast because I enjoyed it so. In fact, my last semester was just add-on classes -- I could have graduated WAY before then because I usually took 19-21 units per semester (standard is 12-14) but... I just didn't want to. ^_^ So, I didn't count my APs so I could take wonderful classes like Asian History, Creative Writing, Physics...

I think I started reading porn around age 14, too. Or maybe just fanfic. Fanfic reading started in about 8th grade, I think. Yay, porn!

Some of the really early YJ stuff is harder to get (I still don't have issue #7, I think), but you should be able to find just about anything you want. Just, ya know, some of the really rare stuff is uber expensive.

Now that Spoiler is actually Robin, well. She's been kinda. Growing on me. Because, apparently, I have a Robin fetish. *g*

Granola bars is good. Nuts, too. Canned meats. Puddings that don't require cold. A loaf of bread to go with the canned meats. Chips. Jerky. Mash. Stuff like that. Also, fork, spoon, knife, plate for each of you (camping gear works). Additionally, you might consider bringing an extra blanket, a towel, maybe a pillow...? Dunno what your comfort level is.

Oh, and FYI: You asked if you needed to bring fancy clothes and I said no, but I forgot to tell you about Saturday. On Saturday, we tend to dress up in constumes. Last year we did faerie things. You know, cosplay. This year we were going to do the Endless, but that kinda got sidetracked, so we're just going to dress up funky (with wings). Ren Faire garb stuff. Just, spiffy. You and Katie don't have to if you don't want to, but I didn't want you to feel left out by me not warning you. (Sparkles, elf ears, funky jewelry, face paint, a fav comic character, wings, lace, frills, etc.) You can just dress funky! And if anyone asks you who you are supposed to be, we have cards to hand out directing them to a website that says you were just being yourself, so then you get to act all mysterious and its fun. Yeah. Heh.

It is 102 degrees here right now. *melts* *longs to be in San Diego where it will be cooler*

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
ok. . . I don't have any elf ears or wings or anything cool like that--I have a cloak but it's my bethpage one, so I'm not sure if I can bring it, and it's wool. But that would be cool. Although, aside from the fact that it doesn't belong to me, it's also huge and heavy. I'll see if we can find anything, but I don't know. That sounds cool, though!!

ok, just woke up so that's all I can think of to say.

[identity profile] cloudtrader.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, you might want to bring your bathing suit. We may or may not go swimming. Well, we always say we will, but we haven't yet because there is always so much to do! But we might, so you probably should.

The cloak would be cool. Or... *considers* How tall are you? I might have some things that would work... How do you feel about Psychedelic Robes of Doom?

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
bathing suit. check.

before I forget, I also need your cell number? I forgot to ask on the phone. I think. Or else I forgot that I asked. . .

I'm 5'4" and Katie is about 5'7". And I feel good about psychedelic robes of doom. :D

is the convention center so air conditioned that I wouldn't want to wear shorts? should I bring pants?

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
ok, also, my mom has this gorgeous velvet opera cloak thing. In slight disrepair, but the real problem is that it was my grandma's, so I'd have to get her OK to use it. My mom. Not my grandma. But that brings up the heat question again, because both that and my bethpage cloak are really warm. So it'd only work if the convention center was sufficiently air conditioned. So--pants? shorts? opera cloak?

Katie's got this bizarre rainbow knit shirt thing, as well. lol.

[identity profile] cloudtrader.livejournal.com 2004-07-21 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I convention center is airconditioned and I've never had problems with it being too warm or too cold before. Shorts, pants, either should work.

Wear what you'll feel comfortable in. I will bring PRoDs for both of you, just in case, but don't worry! Whatever you wear is cool. Think zen. Or hippie. Yeah, think hippie geeked-out nerdish wear. Seriously, there may or may not be fat men over fourty wearing Sailor Moon outfits there, so there is basically NOTHING that is too weird.

Okay, how about this. Look at all of your clothing. Put aside the "normal" stuff that you always wear. Get out the fun stuff that you got on a lark. Mix and match. Consider accessories (god, I sound girly... yewch) like chains, ribbons, scarves tied in strange places, things dangling from your belt. Consider wearing things weirdly -- a short skirt over a long skirt, a tutu with combat boots, a top hat with a rabbits paw dangling from it, etc. While choosing clothing and stuff, create a persona. In this outfit, you get to be someone else. Are you a cyberpunk half-faerie mage from a dystopic future? Are you a sanity-impaired fool for a great king? Are you a mercenary from another dimension stuck in our world and forced to sell candy to survive?

You don't even have to dress up to do this, you know. You could just be "the normal girl that looks like everyone else but who is really the Empress of the World." Heh.

Oh, and my cell number is (805)813-5475.

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-21 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you :D I'm going to wear my pirate clothes, but maybe I'll mix it up a bit! I can't find my sword or my dagger, though. :( I'll look later, but I won't be undefended--I've found my hook. And my eyepatch. Which are the important bits, even though the eyepatch is very, very silly with my glasses. XD

mmmm. . . candy. . . I mean, uh. . . (I'm going to have to keep an eye open for that mercenary.)

[identity profile] inkwraith.livejournal.com 2004-07-21 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't bring anything you'd be afraid of getting dirty or hurt, though! You never know. *is paranoid*

Um, it's hot outside in SD, but it should be reasonably comfortable indoors. Not cold, I don't think. *checks yahoo weather* It should be in the 70s.

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-21 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
eee! love your icoon! poor impulse. . .

i'm bringing some pants and mostly shorts. . . I should be ok. I'll probably wear socks and sandals and be really cool ;)

lemme think. I may be bringing some stuff that I'll have to be careful with, but nothing too valuable.

mostly finished packing except for actually putting it into bags and food. . .

Happy birthday to you and your sister!

thank you, I'll pass the message on to her :)

::pets you::

We're all here for one reason or another baby.

Also? I SUCK, SUCK, SUCK at commenting. But it doesn't mean I don't read and think about ya.

::hugs::

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-17 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
:) Do not worry about it! When someone has over 100 friends, I don't really expect them to be commenting much. Which is why I usually don't befriend people who already seem to have more friends than they can read the entries of, but you're special. ^_^

[identity profile] kheryn.livejournal.com 2004-07-18 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
18 is big (mine came near the end of my freshman year of college)
21 not so much, except that if you do want to drink alcohol you can do it more easily.
kind of looking forward to 25, because that lists the last of the age restriction (for example, on car rentals... of course now that we bought a car it's less of a problem, but still nice in case we have to fly somewhere then rent a car at the destination!)

[identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com 2004-07-20 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I didn't know 25 was the car rental age. That's so strange. . . It's actually kind of weird to have any restrictions after you're legally an adult. It's like. . . you're saying I'm an adult, but that I still need to be babied. Very weird.
