choir and choir trips

Have I explained Concert Choir to you guys? Our school has 2 orchestras, two bands, and two choirs. For each, one is open to all, and one you must audition for to get into. Concert Choir is the choir you have to audition for. Most of my friends are in it. Well, I don't have a large group of friends, but even my less close friends are in choir (except for a few) and David was in it, and Mike was in it, and we generally hang out in the music wing and stuff. And the choir is really, really good. (http://homepage.mac.com/guingel/.Pictures/Track10.mp3) (incidentally, the two soloists on that are David, Katie's boyfriend; and Mike, our older brother. Mike is the extremely deep bass, and Dave is. . . the other one ;) But choir also kinda sucks you in. They all spend a lot of time practicing, the choir is quite tightly-knit, they have a choir picnic and this Banquet at the end of the year where they say good-bye to the seniors, and everything.

So this year, 4th period (which is my lunch period), me and my friend Emily have been working in the choir office. Emily is in choir, in fact, she's one of the 2 secretaries. I've been made the Choir Art Director ;) lol. And apparently today in choir I became Head Choir Groupie. XD

And fourth period M (the conductor) invited me to come on their field trips! w00t! He mentioned one in specific, but before that he implied that it was a standing invitation (and that I'd be needed to help out in general, since most of their trips involve them performing--I wouldn't be performing, so I'd do clerical stuff, I think. My speciality). The one specific trip is in March. The choir is going to be performing at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. It's an overnight trip. The first day they (we?) go in and go to see Chicago (woo hoo!) and go out to dinner and then spend the night at the hotel and all. Then the second day they perform. So M said he was going to send out a letter about it and he'd give me one and there we go! yay! :D

so I'm very excited and gratified :)

off to finish my essays.

I've gotten a fair way into Return of the King though--and intend to read much more of it tonight!

I shall have to remember to listen to that.

The problem with my high school music department was that the band / orchestra / chorus was pretty much open to anyone. They tried to fix that with what was called "the AP band," but it didn't quite work out.

I escaped with the Stage Band, the pit orchestra, and such.

we luckily have a really good music program. Well, for the most part. The orchestra teacher's senile, so the orchestra is really bad. But the symphonic band teacher (who is retiring this year! O_O) is fantastic, and M does an amazing job. We have 2 concerts in winter and spring (so 4 total) and the two orchestras and the concert band are in one (concert band is the open one) and like, only family members go to that and all. But the other one is the choir, the symphonic band, and the chorale (which is fine, you know. that's the choir that's open to everyone). And that concert is always absolutely packed.

our pit orchestra has problems because its conducted by the "Chairman of Fine and Performing Arts", whom I loathe! And he does fine for the brass and all, but he knows nothing about strings and doesn't really help them, so the strings don't sound so good. And also, not all of the best performers choose to be in pit.

lol. I'm really really into the music program for someone who takes no music classes.

Are you enjoying LOTR? or just reading it out of duty? :hopes for the former:

enjoying it immensely! It's causing me great loss of sleep. Return of the King is amazing--I'm enjoying it even more than The Two Towers! I'm in the Scouring of the Shire. Wow, I'm so impressed with Merry right now. I have around 25 pages left :D

:)
