I just saw the movie RUDY. It's a really, really good movie. I was really. . . overcome at the end. I was smiling and laughing and kinda getting worked up (it was around 2:00 in the morning at that point so I couldn't be loud but I would have if I could!) for the last. . . 20 minutes of it, at least ;)
This is kinda reminiscent of the entry I made after seeing Princess Mononoke. I should watch movies by myself late at night more often ;)
Actually, I'd read about RUDY and I knew that it would be a movie that I'd want to watch by myself. :)
Uhm. Sorry I haven't been posting. I have been reading my friends page though, even if I haven't been commenting. I think I probably said, oh, I'll post over vacation when I'm not as busy. >.> I've been vacationing. It's been a really good break though. I mean, I have to do all my homework now in the last 2 days. lol. But I don't have too much, so it's not a problem. I'd like to do some work on my sketchbook and get ahead on my essays, though. Actually. . . I might be able to! I just have little bits and pieces of the other homework. (well, and I have to do a write-up thing on a movie, which is easy, and I have to read Hamlet--also easy. then I have to do one last problem from the problem set--the graphing one--and finish the multiple choice and compare answers with Katie. Oh, and finish 2 little conclusion questions from the lab.)
So. . . I've had a very good vacation. I haven't really been on the computer all that much. And when I have, I've been at a LotR fansite of some type or another. Probably accumulating real player files of interviews. ::whistles innocently::
Yes, Fellowship of the Ring has become a fun new obsession for me to fill my time with! :D I've decided that I like the movie enough that I can view it separately from the book and just not compare them: they're each wonderful in their own right, in their own media. I was kinda worried about the whole thing. I feel a little hypocritical now--but not really. :)
When I haven't been going to LOTR websites, I've been doing a couple of things. Either exploring the DVD, or reading the Two Towers. ::sigh:: I still haven't seen the movie because I know that if I see the movei then read the book, I'll be thinking about the movie and the scenes and the movie characters while I read the book. And that'd mess it up for me--my characters in the book aren't the same as the ones in the movie. So I've been waiting. Then I'll go see it a couple times to make up for it ;) I've got only 35 pages left, actually. w00t!
I've also been doing a lot of sleeping. ::ahem:: nevermind that I'm up at 3 in the morning writing livejournal entries. :D I've been sleeping late and then taking long naps. No wonder I haven't got any homework done!
Perin and Emily slept over one night last week. It was loads of fun. First we went to our grandpa's for supper, where we acquired Taboo! We had great fun playing that all night. We also watched Lilo and Stitch! It was great!! I loved it! :) Lilo was adorable! And I really, really want to learn to surf. . . but I'm fairly sure I don't have the coordination needed to do so. lol. I don't have Rudy's drive or determination. Maybe I will some day though :D
The next morning Emily had to go home, but we went to me and Katie's old elementary school with David and Perin! It used to be a golf course, so it's got all these hills and is great for sledding. However, the good hills were full of people, so we just wandered around and played for a while. David lost his ring, so he and Katie went off to look for that while me and Perin played. :D We had a snowball fight! Then we sat down in the snow and soaked our butts very thoroughly. Then we were having fun taking off our gloves and trying to leave handprints--and we also were trying to make really smooth, well packed, round snowballs. We had about 7, when I got up to get the round pastic dishes we'd brought for sledding. When I looked up, Perin had picked up the snowballs we made and was coming at me! I froze--then ran to the nearest tree. With that behind me, I was able to crouch down and make myself a shield out of the dishes. Ha! Her attacks were deflected (except for the last one, which went down my collar. ;) It was loads of fun. :D
We got Escape from Monkey Island for Christmas so Katie and David have been playing that. We've also been working on Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within at David's house these last few nights. We're hoping to finish it before he leaves. :-/ I got many good presents, most of which escape me at the moment. lol. Oh, except for one! Katie got me a Cthulhu plush! XD
All right. That was the Laura update. I think I sound kinda strange, that's because I'm quite tired. I wonder if I'll be able to get any reading done before bed. . . hmm. The computer is making strange noises.
RUDY was fantastic!! :D I loved it! Go see it. :) I feel that my inital statement fails to portray the intense emotion that lies behind my opinion of the movie. :) Sean Astin was wonderful--I think he's a big part of why I loved it so much. . . not only because he was so good but because he was so cute! ;) lol. But really. . . incredible movie. Amazing story. :)

Date: 2002-12-31 01:28 pm (UTC)I don't think ANYONE really does much homework over break. Really, most people leave it until the last weekend before the school term starts again to do anything. Well, *I* always did anyway. (Actually, I was more likely to leave it until the last day before school started again, heh.) And yeah, during vacation most people stay up to ungodly hours and then sleep reeeeeally late and take naps. That's what's fun about it!
LotR rocks! My mum and my best friend are both obsessed with it, and I think that obsession is rubbing off on me, too. On our drive back from ComicCon this last summer, Alseides spent, oh, about three hours telling me the entire story of The Two Towers. Yesterday I was visiting with my mum and asked a random question about Arwen and suddenly she was hauling out the maps of Middle-Earth (she actually has one hanging on the wall above her sewing table) and tracing the route of the various personages of the stories with me for a good hour. Not only was my question answered, but I learned many other things, too! At the party the other day (also with the LotR obsessed people here), I talked so eloquently about the books that my friends actually thought I had read them. Heh. Actually, I'm thinking I probably should try again. Maybe. Aww hell, probably. :-)
And go see the movie soon! It rocks!
Snow, eh? I've never actually, ahem, seen a large mass of snow up close. Oh, my sister took me up to the mountains once to play in it, but there were only patches on the ground. I've never seen it falling, either. It always looks so fun to play in (from the movies and such that I've seen)! But cold. I don't think I'd like living in a place where it snowed and like, the snow blocked streets and such. The whole thing seems rather weird to me.
But should you wish to learn how to surf, you must come out to California and we shall tackle the beach together! I am not at all good with a board, but we can learn together.
Well then, Happy New Year! (And post more often please, girly!)

Date: 2002-12-31 07:43 pm (UTC)RUDY is definitely something to see. It's based on a true story, which makes it that much more amazing and meaningful. Rudy was a kid who absolutely loved Notre Dame football, and he dreamed of playing for them. The only problem was, his grades weren't good enough to get into the school, he really doesn't have athletic talent, and no one in his family went to college, they all went to work at the steel mill. So basically the story is about how he pursued his dream even when everyone discouraged him, and worked incredibly hard and was so dedicated. It's an amazing and very beautiful story.
hehe--definitely try to read them! The books are awesome. :D I just finished The Two Towers today! woo hoo! It's great. So now I'm going to go see the movie as soon as I can. . . then again a few times after that.
We don't get too much snow, and less than we used to. What happens is we'll get a couple of snowfalls each year, and then we'll have the snow for around a week, and then by that time the whole thing will have melted. It's fun to play in, but you're right--it's not fun to drive in. Or walk, although I adore walking in snow compared to my feelings on walking to school over ice. I hate ice!!
You come out to here to go sledding, and then in August I'll come out for ComicCon and then go surfing!
Happy New Year to you too :)
