whooo! good things happening! I actually should be taking a shower right now, but I'll try to be brief.
First off, I'm sorry I haven't been commening at all these past couple of days. I've been going to rehearsals and not getting home til six. I have, however, been reading. And when the show is over I'll have more time to impart wisdom ;)

Second off. . . wow!! real player kinda was getting messed up and I couldn't really watch the (k.d. lang) videos, and I asked my dad if he knew how I could fix it, which he didn't. And I was like, "I wouldn't be so upset except that I have no other way of listening to the music". . . and he said "well, do you want your Hannukah present early?" Squeeee!! (Hannukah itself is seriously early this year so I'm only 2 weeks early) And he gave me both of the CDs that I asked for--Live in Concert and Invincible Summer!! They're both fantastic! I'm listening to them right now :D (first thing I did was transfer them to iTunes) And I have Invincible Summer in my alarm clock--it was fantastic to wake up to Summerfling :D
edit: Invincible Summer is, rather obviously, where I got the quote in the title. It's written on the booklet thing (what are they called) and is from Summer, Return to Tipasa by Albert Camus, and isn't it fantastic?

Number 3: I've got a new default icon ::grins:: and a redesign to go with it! I'm not completely pleased, but I couldn't get color codes for the colors that I really would like to use--not a lot of the purpley-grays and blue-grays that I need. But I also made a background to go with it (it's an enormous file, btw. ugh. 156K or something--but that was easiest because of the slants.) which, ah, took a while. lol. But I like the way the redesign looks better with the backgroun.

4: Remember that which LJ user are you quiz thing? Well, I redid mine. I'm glad because the text was really not me anymore. So: http://homepage.mac.com/guingel/.Pictures/userquiz.jpg

5: I'd gotten the same grade as Katie on our physics notebooks. And Katie was the first person to say that something was wrong with that. lol. Cos she does not do anything with her notebook and she doesn't care or anything, and I do try. So I talked to Miss R, and she raised my grade 4 points :D (and it was doubled, it was really 8 points and my 84 became a 92) Which was good enough in itself, but she also said that one of the things she changed (the other three, neither of us are sure why she marked them off. . . lol.) was because she wanted me to be aware of organization, and she said that now that I was aware, lol, she changed it for me--which I thought was fantastic! But it gets even better. . . wow. . . she said (that she shouldn't really be telling me this, so shhh) that I'm one of the top three students in physics this year and that I'm really getting things. O_O wow! :D I haven't told anyone--partly because she wasn't supposed to tell me to begin with, partly because I don't want to show off, and I think a lot because of this weird thing I have about cockiness. lol. But I couldn't resist putting it here.

YEAH!!! Academons yesterday--w00t! We did really well! In the morning it was the "It's Academic!" League. lol. Katie was on the team, and she did great--they all did! I was so proud!! We won with a final score of 47. The other two teams were 39 and 29. :)
Then in the afternoon we had Quizbowl. We were actually against the team that beat us in the Long Island Challenge last year, which I've mentioned but don't have time to look the entry up now. So their Varsity team was really good. Really. Good. So they won. We were also short 2 people--at least one of which is very smart. . . but still. I think it would have helped, but they had one really fast buzzer who knew, like, everything and just a strong team. Katie was on Varsity, so I felt bad for her. But they were really nice and all.
Then there was JV. To understand this, you have to know something about our JV team. Last year, we did wretchedly. Like, owwies. I was on the team a fair amount of the time. lol. I think we won once. and we had one time when the other team forfeited. lol. Yesterday. . . Well. First we were making teams (we were missing people cos of show rehearsal) and they asked me to be captian. eep! I asked not to be, which worked nicely because there was someone else who probably doesn't do as well as me, but wanted to be captain (and did a better job than I would have--I'll get to that) so he was able to do that. Plus, I was the only junior on the team, so it'd have been kinda weird. But anyway, I was still on the team. And Isaac, who ended up doing the captaining, turned to me at the beginning of the match and said that he was going to be referring to me a lot (on the group questions) which made me feel good :)
Quizbowl is kind of complicated, but there are 2 rounds where it's individual and you buzz in, and 2 where it's a group effort. I buzzed in a lot (certainly a lot more than I did last year!) and I did really well--I think I got the most "toss-up" questions, at least in the first round. And then I was able to help quite a bit in the group ones. Which was really nice. I actually think that I was, possibly (ack! cockiness!) the "most valuable player". Except for Isaac because he did a really good job as the captain--we kinda made one mistake but it wasn't his fault or anything. It was also better that he was captain because the other 2 kids on the team were in his grade and would be more comfortable talking to him and stuff. (btw, I was the only girl on both JV teams. lol. There was one on each of the Varsity teams.) I felt good, because last year me and Katie were not only the only girls, but the only sophomores, and I'm glad that we're proving our worth ;) David was helpful with that too, last year. So now I'm kind of becoming a valued member of the team--the guys are starting to see us as part of the group and actual contributors. lol. (they invited us to Wendy's after the morning match but we declined cos we had errands to run)
So, anyway, to make a long story. . . slightly less long, we won!! :D it was great! 91 to 49. I was sooo proud of us! lol. And myself--I'm usually a little nervous with the buzzers, but now I'm a junior ;) and I have experience, and everyone was really nice, so I was more confident and buzzed in a lot more. It was also a set of questions that we were good with-- cos sometimes there's just a set that you simply don't know any of the answers for.
At first I couldn't get my mind around the fact that we won. It was like, "JV won. . . what? no! That can't be! But it is! JV won!!" lol. I was amazed. :D It was fantastic. And we got our revenge on them for beating us at the LI Challenge and for beating Varsity. lol. Luckily their JV team wasn't as strong as their Varsity. They were good though! ;) It was actually the first time they did Quizbowl. They were really nice--I especially liked their Advisor (I'm often a little ashamed of Friedman when we "go out in public with him". lol. Hopefully Ms. R will come along some time and prove that not all our teachers are evil). [on a related note, the teacher who was reading questions in the morning was a pain in the rear! I did not like him. he also had, like, a double standard. I'm fairly sure he favored his own kids. Cos once someone called out an answer, and he accepted it when the team gave it--i mean, it was not a question that he didn't hear the person shout. Everyone heard. But then once he tried to give a question to the wrong team, and the team that was supposed to have the question interrupted him and said, "hey, wait, this is our question" (he was giving the extra to his team. . .) and he was going to go and find a new question because he'd been interrupted and was being all snippy! We made him just reread the question. >.<]

one last thing. lol. Today in social studies, when class was almost over, Friedman came over and was standing by the door, which is where my desk is. And he said that he was in a really good mood and wasn't sure why. I said "It's because we won yesterday!" And he agreed (he said, "well, 2 out of 3" and I told him that that was still good :D) and I told him that I was shocked that JV actually won. lol. And he said that "JV rocked!". ::blink::
1) it was disturbing hearing Friedman use the word "rocked". I mean, part of it is that he just turned 55 and stuff, but i think a 55 year old could pull that off--just not him. it was weird.
2) :D I was flattered. lol.

edit: I remembered one more last thing. lol. Uhm. Oh yes. In the morning competition, one of the questions was to name the person who said this quote, "Hollywood is a place that will give you $50 million for a kill and 50ยข for your soul." And I knew immediately that it was Marilyn Monroe because I had just heard it somewhere! Only I couldn't remember where. And our team got it, too, because Katie had also just heard it--and she couldn't remember where either! My theory is that it was in this thing at the end of "Gone With the Wind" that was like, a preview for something that was coming out that was The Making of Gone With the Wind or something. I hate that movie, but my mom was watching it and at the end she didn't have headphones in so we were listening. I mean, Marilyn Monroe wasn't in it, but I think they might have quoted her.
Hmmm. My mom says they didn't, but she also said that they were talking about Hollywood--and I cannot think of any time in the last few days where we both would have heard this quote!! So I'm thinking that possibly she's mistaken. I have no idea where we both heard that! It was extremely bizarre.

ok. now I'm going to shower. ::winces:: I'm up too late. dag.

I also don't have an assignment due tomorrow for Sports Medicine. I mean, it was assigned on Wednesday when I was on the field trip, and it's hopefully not a huge deal, but I did find out the assignment. . . and then realized I didn't have what I needed to do it. owwies!! The book wasn't in my locker, so I thought I must have brought it home. I couldn't find it at home, but luckily I remembered before I got worked up--I left my book in Perin's locker!! Dammit! So I couldn't do the assignment. The teacher's. . . I'm actually not sure how she'll react, especially since I don't know how much emphasis was placed on the assignment. I'm a little nervous, but not really--it won't help anything--and look at how many good things are happening :D

how are you picking your codes? I can tell you some of the exact codes for colors from your icon, if you like. (photoshop phreak -> tossblack)

and that's a wonderful quote. I take it it's from lyrics? (tossblack <- ignorant)

I just have this site: http://www.utexas.edu/learn/html/colors.html and another one that is arranged differently but has the same colors. It would be fantastic if you could tell me more codes! :D

actually, it's the quote where she got the title of the album from, but it never appears in any of the songs. It's written in the little booklet thing. Apparently it's from Summer, Return to Tipasa by Albert Camus. I'm going to edit that into the entry--I felt bad quoting without giving credit but I needed to shower and sleep ;) But I wanted to stick in a title and I think the quote is wonderful too :) I really love the concept, and I think it's true!

Well, there is certainly a lot to comment on here. I know for sure where I know that Marilyn Monroe quote from: at the movie! At the cinema right next to our school, they have quotes from popular actors and actresses. I remember seeing that quote when I went to see Spy Kids 2. So maybe that's where you saw it, when you went to the movie theatre. Or that could be just me.

W007 for general happiness!
