school talk
Sep. 19th, 2002 03:47 pmYesterday in physics we learned about the tri-plane of vertex theory.
Tomorrow is friday and I just have math and social studies homework. Life is good :D
I'm listening to the Concert Choir/Symphonic Band CD from my freshman and sophomore years (those are the "high quality" groups at our school, and they are really fantastic). How I got it is pretty interesting. . .
There's a couple of people in my lunch period that I don't really enjoy spending time around over-much, so when Emily (
d3c3p7i0n) came in and said she was going to be working in the music office (for the heads of those 2 choirs--M and Mrs. B. No, wait. Ms. B. I believe she's a lesbian, but I'm not sure. People might have just started rumors cos she's rather masculine) for the period I jumped at the chance to go with her and help out. Emily has to "log office hours" because she's an officer (secretary) in choir. Even though Emily told M that she'd be coming and helping out (they have choir the period before lunch--she left her bookbag in the office and all) we arrived to find him busy in a lesson. >.< So we just kinda spend the period chilling in the office. Emily answered the phone a couple times when no one else was there, but Ms. B was there for most of the lunch period, so it wasn't necessary.
Ms. B was making some phone calls. She started her conversation with "Hello, Sy," which made me and Emily kinda prick up our ears--my dad's name is Sy. But even though my dad has helped Ms. B with her computer several times (he helps a lot of people with their computers) and they're friends and all, I thought it would be too much of a freaky coincidence that she'd be calling him while I was there (she didn't know who I am). But then she asked "How's Mike?" (Mike played the trombone in symphonic band, as well as singing bass in concert choir) and me and Emily totally freaked out! XD We spent most of their conversation dying quietly to each other. They made dinner plans for next week. lol. XD It was too funny!
Then Ms. Bauer mentioned to dad that she had a CD for Mike and that dad should remind us to go and get it. At this point, Emily pointed to me, and the truth was out! We all cracked up :D It was great!
And I got the CD, which is fantastic. If I can figure out how to upload mp3 files I'll upload one where both Mike and David have solos :)
Today at lunch M was absent so we stayed in the cafeteria, where we were attacked by yellow jackets. One landed on my cookies, and Emily (who has experience with them from camp this summer) said to get a cup, which I did. We put the cup over the whole thing, and then pulled the wax paper that the cookies were wrapped in out so it'd cover the whole bottom of the cup. But we didn't have a rubber band to keep it shut, so we took a plastic bag and put it over the whole thing, then quickly wrapped a twist tie around it, and tied a knot in the bag, and threw the whole thing out. XD Kinda mean for the yellow jacket, but funny nonetheless.
Everyone's at rehearsal now. Academons tomorrow. :D
ooooh, Christian solo! He graduated last year and he was a diva, but he's crazy-mad-good. I can't wait to see where he'll be in 10 years. I'm going to look for his name. He's bound to be famous ;)
isn't Freya more of a "real name" than Frana or Francina?
I did good in math, we did some problem solving (you know, the two trains moving at each other type of thing) and I think I was the only one who got some problems. or I was the only one who volunteered to put it on the board. I know other people had it because I helped them ;) But I was working on tonight's homework yesterday and one of the problems stumped me.
"A landscaper, who just completed a rectangular flower garden measuring 6 feet by 10 feet, orders 1 cubic yard of premized cement, all of which is to be used to create a border of uniform width around the garden. If the border is to have a depth of 3 inches, how wide will the border be? (1 cubic yard=27 cubic feet)"
I have to be able to find one equation that will solve that. What's really messing me up is the units.
edit: me and my dad discussed it in the car, and I think I've got it figured out: http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=guingel&itemid=108817&thread=524305#t524305
does that seem right? I'm going to go work it out now and then you'll all find out :D

Date: 2002-09-19 04:20 pm (UTC)*because the 27 cubic feet would become 3x3x3, and you'd multiply each 3 by 12 (to convert it to inches) and then you'd get 36x36x36
