Do you have a primary? Are you voting in it? Did you get up half an hour early to vote in it only to be half an hour early to work somehow? That's right, voting takes negative time!

Anyway, guys, primaries are fun and important so you should make sure to vote in them if your area has one and you're eligible.

::patpat:: So are many people on my flist. Also, many of the Americans might not have primaries or might not be registered in a political party. Or might not be interested in voting, although that's partly why I posted!

Anyways, you are not alone in having this entry not apply to you in the slightest! I'm just really excited about the primary. XD Less excited about the pending run-off(s)! (In NYC if no one receives more than 40% of the vote, the top two candidates have a special extra run-off election.)

Can I do this if I am registered as Independent? My American Government teacher said I couldn't. It's why I registered as Independent.

It depends on the state. Sometimes there will be a referendum on the ballot and you can vote on that, but not on people who are running for specific positions.

This sounds like good news. Thanks.

Yeah, some states have open primaries where anyone can vote, and some have primaries where you can only vote if you're registered in the party having the election.

Why would you not want to vote in a primary, though? IT IS WHEN THE WHEELS OF DEMOCRACY DO THEIR TURNING. Or something. In NYC it's actually the entire election, they're probably less cool elsewhere.

Well! I don't pay enough attention to politics. I don't even know who's running for what or when it's time to vote or anything like that. I'd feel more irresponsible than I already do if I cast a vote without even knowing who the hell I'm voting for. Most of my free time is spent procrastinating and trying to convince myself to do homework. No time for politics!

Yeah, if I wasn't involved I'd probably have no clue who was running for what. But! In NYC, my very agency puts out a Voter Guide with statements from everyone running in your district about their qualifications and priorities. It's not a surefire way to vote for the right person, but at least it's something.

Of course, I'm not at all involved in putting out the Voter Guide but i think it's probably the most important thing we do here. I think more places should have something like that.

But yeah, I see where you're coming from.

Hey speaking of procrastination, have you watched any Avengers?

I watched the first 10 minutes of the Avengers episode you linked me to and then my dad distracted me and I forgot. :(

I don't think there's even much Emma Peel in the first 10 minutes!

Isn't September late for a primary? PA always had theirs in April.

I'm waiting to see what Massachusetts decides to do about the senator situation, and I'll vote for a new one in January if it comes to that. :) But if there was any sort of election between March and now, I completely missed it.

Well probably since most of the races are decided in the primary, there isn't a need to maintain that much space between the primary and the general. Other places had them yesterday as well, though!

Wait, you're in Massachusetts now? I thought you were still in PA!

Yup! I moved to Somerville in March, and I finally found a job and started it last week.
