Today I discovered that I apparently think about and remember WWII in a very different way than most Americans. It's really weird. Cos both my dad's parents are holocaust survivors and obviously that would color my perspective. But really, I thought a lot of my point of view was developed through what I learned in school. I'm surprised that my high school is so different, although perhaps being on Long Island we just did have a different perspective. My US history teacher was Jewish, too? I don't remember doing WWII in AP US, though. My dominant memory of AP US is. . . the railroad. (If any of you went to my high school and had my extremely stupid AP US teacher, you'd be laughing wryly right now.)
