Went into the city today - ridiculously awesome! In that I was ridiculously successful in making purchases. And spending money. XD But I almost never do that, I've been very thrifty (and hadn't had time to do anything) this year.
Met Dad downtown by the DOB, but he had to run back up to his office and The Katie's boyfriend had to go to the bank, so we ducked into Duane Reed to wait. I think Duane Reed's are only in NYC, so other people don't know about them, which is weird cos they're on almost every corner in the city. Anyway, they're a chain of pharmacies that are like CVS in that they have everything that you could ever want and I love them dearly (both CVS and Duane Reed). So, yeah. Wandering around, looking at the candy, then we're all "Oh, hey, let's check out the goofy bargain DVDS!" The Green Mile was there, so we were all "Look! It's Tom Hanks! We passed him on the street just a few blocks from here!" (We did, actually.) Anyway, then Katie's all "Haha, look, a Godzilla movie!" Cos I'd been talking to her about how Mabo was in one and how Mothra was in it too and it's all hilarious.
Guess what it turned out to be? Godzilla: Final Wars. The one starring Mabo. Who was teeny tiny on the cover!
So, so, amazing. I went into the city just so I could go to Japanese bookstores and look for Johnny's stuff, and we just fall over a movie starring one of my favorite Johnny's in Duane Frikkin' Reed! XD For 10 bucks! AWESOME!
( some talk about the movie - no spoilers, really, although I don't know if the word even applies here )
Anyway! We got lunch in Chinatown and it was delicious, and we teased The Katie cos she just started learning Chinese.
Then, the Strand Annex, where I got a present for a friend, and then we headed uptown to Book Off, which is right outside the New York Public Library. If that helps locate it for anyone? Anyway, looked around, as ever got totally confused by Japanese alphabeticalization, good times. Found TOK10! Then. . . found it for 7 dollars! TOTAL SCORE!!!!! So exciting! Also saw V6 DVDs. Also saw Kimi wa Petto DVDs for $140. Seriously. I was like "Is that a random one in front of that 40?" So I felt even more excited about getting my CD for $7.
TOK10 booklet! Katie and I ran out of the store and pawed through it and IT'S POSSIBLY THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN!!! Will scan when I'm back at Smith!
Then we walked up 5th Ave to Rockefeller Center which was lovely and festive! It was cold, but a really nice day out. Haha, it's like, already colder than it got my whole time in Manchester, pretty much. Anyway, yes. It was lovely. And we went to Kinokuniya, which is, uh, another Japanese bookstore. Where I spent oodles and oodles of money on idol magazines. So embarassing to buy! XD Anyway, uh, anyway, Mabo's on a motorcycle now. *_* OK, it's monsters. Right, so, yeah. Got a Wink Up and Potato (YAAAAAY! Love it just cos the name cracks me up) and Popolo for the first time, and my second Duet and 4th Myojo. Maybe 5th. ::bouncebounce:: The Katie and I are having a really good time looking through them. Two of them have photos of Yoko and Hina recording Recommen! Which is actually our favorite thing done by any Johnny's, largely thanks to
ttthhbbbtt. So, super-exciting!
The Katie also bought a vespa magnet.
Then, went to grandpas and had latkes yaaaay! I love latkes so, so much. (Latkes are potato pancakes, by the way.) And I've also been eating clementines which taste really good.
Tomorrow, everyone's coming over here - including my twin baby cousins! Huzzah! I love seeing them. Actually, they're almost 3, I guess. Geez. Born my first year at Smith. Twins are better than regular people :)
So, yeah. Highly successful day. Had a lovely time in the city with Katie, and ended up with Johnny's magazine, CD, and DVD! Rawk.
