I'm giving this it's own entry, even though I edited it into the previous one - [livejournal.com profile] ayamachi took a picture of Sho when we were following him around the Con floor!

You can see we're, I dunno, less than 10 feet away? We got nearer and further in our circlings. XD But this is basically how close we were to him for 15-30 minutes. And you can also see one of his huge American bodyguards! The other guy was an older white dude, but just as beefy.

Click for a full-sized version.

I'm not sure why he's leaning forward like that to conduct the interview. Possibly freaked out by the people in costumes?

Note about height: he seemed tiny, but definitely taller than me, I'm about 5'4". Katie felt that he was maybe a tiiiny bit taller than her, I think she's about 5'7". Katie is Okada's height, whatever that is. And Okada's weight, by the way. Officially, at least. Anyway, [livejournal.com profile] ayamachi isn't sure but she thinks he was a little shorter than her and she's around 5'8" or 5'9". So I think we can assume he is between their heights, 5'7.5" or 5'8".

Edit: By the way, I don't know if people have watched fancams (or were there) but at one point Sho turns to the cameramen and then points at the Yatterman booth? We were standing right in front of the booth, or at least in between the booth and Sho, because we didn't want to be in the midst of the crowd - and showed up later. So the way he turned to talk to the cameramen first, and then pointed right at us, for a second I was like "What? He's saying 'look, those are the white girls who were following us around before!'" I knew that made no sense. XD But I seriously had a moment of "!?!?!? Where is he pointing???" I'd also forgotten that the booth was right behind us. Katie told me after, "Uh, he was clearly pointing at the booth," but when I watched the fancams i realized it was the way he was talking to his cameramen that made me think he was just pointing out something weird to them. XD

You! Love Shuffle! I found softsubs. . . but I couldn't find raws. XD Is it only available for torrenting right now or am I just not looking in the right place?

You can get them off clubbox, too. I have no idea about direct downloads because I prefer torrents for large files. Easier to run overnight.^^

Sho in the middle of huge American bodyguards amuses me. XDD (But then, so does Nino next to Clint Eastwood and basically everyone else in Letters From Iwojima... ;P)

Also, about Sho's height: It's officially said to be 1.71 m (which is... uh, 5'6'', according to my googled calculator) and I think that might work, because I'm the same height as Matsujun (1.73 m, or 5'7'', officially) and when they stand next to each other without any shoes on (like in the one Iza Now performance where they danced barefoot) it looks like Sho's about two to three centimeters (or one inch ^-^) smaller than Jun.

Actually, I've noticed that all of Arashi's ratio to each other is pretty consistent with what they officially say. Aiba's supposed to be about an inch taller than Jun, which he definitely is when they're both standing upright. Ohno's definitely the smallest and he's about two inches shorter than Sho, which works with his self-admitted height of 1.65 m / ...uhm, 5'4''? Is that right? That would be about your height - anyway, he said he's 1.65 m, while Nino officially is 1.68 m, but has confessed that he's really only 1.66, which definitely makes more sense than his official height, since most of the time he's the same height as Ohno, which only works if there's next to no height difference between them to begin with, since they both slouch and everything.
Ugh, I ramble. Ignore me. ^^"

(Also, in case you're wondering whether I think you're stupid, since I keep on adding the feet and inches - I don't, I just don't know how often you use the metric system and I know from experience that it can be a bit difficult to think in a system that you don't use every day. ^-^)

I'm actually getting 5'7" when I convert 1.71m, using Dashboard's converter. 5.6ft or 67in. And I get 5'8" for 1.73. This site (http://www.unitconversion.org/unit_converter/length.html) gives me the same numbers. How did you get 5'6"?

At any rate, the proportions do seem fine? And the unit conversion I got puts his official height equal to his (perceived) actual height. Which is fascinating! XD

(I'm not good with metric, generally - although putting together the JE stats gave me a certain level of familiarity with some basic height conversions. 164cm, btw, is 5'4.5" - it's Morita Go's height, the smallest on my stats page. Ohno's probably a tiny bit taller than me, which seems about right.)

Basically they're all teeny tiny, and they look teeny tiny. XD But tinier in person, and in America.

I used this website, which I found through random googling, so of course no idea just how good it is. ^^" But the conversion of meters to feet/inches always seems to be rather difficult... no wonder I always have problems giving my own height in feet, when asked - I've never been measured by a tape that had feet as the measuring unit and most conversion systems don't seem to agree with each other. v-v" (And no two people either, apparently, at least it was like that when I told people my height in centimeter and they tried to converse it into feet. ^^" So, according to these websites you used, I'm 5'8'' instead of 5'7''? How nice. XD)

But if 5'8'' is the same as 1.73, then I think your estimate of 5'7.something'' is probably quite close to his official height (plus maybe a little bit added for shoes). ^-^

And yes, basically they're all not very tall... though they're probably taller than I'd personally expect, since I know a few guys who're around 1.65 and they don't seem all that small to me. ^-^ (But then I work with children a lot, which probably skewers my perception a bit. ;P)

Oh my god, I know - I always have so much trouble with conversions, especially from meters to feet. I always go over it again and again and still feel confused. The key is to use inches, not feet. And the key after that is to remember that 60 inches is 5 feet. (Or, if you're getting into taller people, 72 inches is 6 feet.)

Katie tells me she's a little shorter than 5'7" anyway, so yeah. :D

Hahaha, I have such high standards before I consider someone tall. Katie and I were just like "6 feet (182 cm) isn't even that tall! It's just normal!" I mean, it's on the tall end of normal, but. . . Yeah, I come from a tall family. And almost all of my guy friends in England were about 6 feet tall. Or, well, of the 6 guys I was closest with, 4 of them were around 6 foot? And my tallest cousin is over 2m, I think. XD So basically Katie and I decided that we're only considering Nagase, Mabo, Sakamoto, and Ohkura tall, out of JE. Uchi and Koyama maybe. No one else gets to be called tall except in the context of "taller than the others." ;)

I never can remember how many centimeters one inch is, though... (2.5, I always thought, but that doesn't really work. ^^" Yeah, confusing.)

My family isn't quite that tall, but my brothers and I are all pretty tall. ^-^ But yeah, for American / European standards (...well, northern Europe, I guess... there are quite a lot of differences, to the point that the average in the Netherlands is one of the highest in the worlds, while a lot of French people tend to be rather small), the JE guys are tiny, on the whole. ^-^

(Which is quite funny considering that the Korean boybands seem to be so tall, on the whole. I wonder why that is?)

AH!!!! I know exactly what he was pointing at! XD Snort, I should have put this in my comment back in a_ra_shi but - scatterbrain.

Yeah, my friends and I were just a few feet in front of you then. Someone had made a giant flag that said...Sakurai Sho something something, I forget what, but we're talking sheet size flag with his name and bright pink as well. One of the girls I was meeting up with there - her friend had made it and then handed it off to another one of their friends. So when Sho made the appearance, she just held up the sign and he pointed towards that. X3

...I think anyway. XD; It looked an awful lot like the point was at our general area. I'm hoping the cameraman got footage of it, so we'll see next week on News Zero. This morning there was a blip about the premiere in the Culture section, but the actual "US v Japan comic fans" report won't be until next week at least.

So maybe you'll be on tv next week? XD

MWA!

I knew there was another comment to respond to. XD

That would totally make sense! I can definitely see him being like "ooh, that'll look good on the report!" I'm pretty sure the cameramen did follow where he was pointing! I totally don't remember a huge sheet but I was pretty much looking up. XD

I saw the Zoom In stuff about the premiere with the teeny bit of Con footage - nothing yet. ::sigh:: (Is that what you were referring to or is there something else that I've missed?) I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the full report! If you find it somewhere sneaky (like, not one of the main arashi comms) please let me know! :D

Absolutely! I keep my finger on the pulse of arashi vids and I think they all pretty much come from the comms, but if not I'll definitely pass on the links.

But there should be an extended report about the convention on Zero itself. The friend whose friend made the banner? She texted me post Yatterman to tell me she had been interviewed by Zero. Apparently they went to some bookstores and asked people their opinion of manga for a larger story about Japanese comic book fans in comparison to American comic book fans. So there should be a longer story coming out with Sho/NTV's interviews and the con footage. I don't quite know what a SAKURAI SHO! flag would have to do with that theme, but I hope it gets air time anyway. XD

MWA!

Yeah, that jives with what we saw them doing. It was a lot of going to the manga-related booths and talking to people shopping there. Afterwards we were like "Man, didn't they want the perspective of fans of American comics?? We would be their consultants!" XD (Of course, we also decided that one of the reasons we prefer American comics is that they're in color. Not particularly deep!)
