happiness meme, day whatever
Dec. 9th, 2008 10:00 pmWhat made me happy today:
VH1's #1 Song of the 80s: LIVING ON A PRAYER!! YEAH BON JOVI!!!
I am rocking out even as I type this. WHOOOO-OOOH!! We're halfway there!
To fill people in, three years ago, I guess, in my sophomore year at Smith, roommate!Corey and I decided to become Bon Jovi fans so we listened to this song a lot and ALSO listened to their new stuff - who says you can't go home, amirite, Jon? - and we followed the Heather Locklear-Richie Sambora breakup in the tabloids and were devastated because we thought those two kids were gonna make it. So Bon Jovi holds a very special place in my heart, and Living on a Prayer is my favorite of their many awesome songs. XD I have been known, when it is played, to wave my hands in the air like I just don't care. Also to sing along loudly. Even if it is in a movie trailer, and they cut it off for dramatic effect. (it was High School Musical 3, no one cared!)
I am, however, disappointed because they played "Don't Stop Believin'" during all the ads and I missed it. D: I did, however, get to see Hall & Oates. I had only the vaguest understanding of Hall & Oates. I knew about Oates' moustache but I did not know he was tiny and hilarious, and I did not know about Hall. XD
I need to shower. Will do it tomorrow morning.
Am super-busy these days! It's intense.
Oh, but I had my performance review today for my first three months of work and it was uniformly positive and I'm really really happy. :D
Now perhaps I will. . . hmm. I want to go to sleep by 11:30. I think I will watch some FotC and chillax with my internets.

Date: 2008-12-10 05:42 am (UTC)Congratulations on the positive performance review!
I have a question~ I was looking through my files to pick a TOKIO PV to sub, and now I'm wondering if you have Transistor G Girl on a DVD that you wouldn't mind ripping for me...? I have a TV rip that will work fine if I can't get a DVD rip, but the color's kind of flat and there are multiple watermarks on it. If you don't, that's fine.^^ I wanted to go sub two of the ones you already ripped for me, but I can't find the converted files on my computer, so I'm asking my encoding guru if she'll send me them again.^^
*can't stop subbing*

Date: 2008-12-10 12:46 pm (UTC)I already had Transistor G Girl ripped, apparently! Here it is (http://www.mediafire.com/?j0wiztznfgm") - once again, it's a mov file. D: But since you're already going to your encoding guru? I'm not sure why I never uploaded that to begin with. . . Anyway, I love that PV. XD There's something so strangely awkward about it!! It's delicious.

Date: 2008-12-10 09:08 pm (UTC)lol Every time someone talks about Question?, I get confused about where the sentence ends. Stupid punctuation... XD

Date: 2008-12-10 07:26 am (UTC)Hall and Oates are kick ass, man. Behold their amazing grace and power! And their hair. And their crafty synthesizer beats. I mean look at this. 100% hardcore.
Yayyy, congrats on your performance review!

Date: 2008-12-10 03:12 pm (UTC)And yes, I have no shame. XD If pressed, I would assert that you paid for the ticket.
"Grace and power" - INDEED. Current!Oates was saying "My moustache became, like. . . a symbol of the time. I'm glad I don't have it anymore." Man, I can't get over how tiny he is. And how striking the contrast between them is. XD With Hall up there trying to be cool - and succeeding, of course - and then Oates popping up "like HEY! DID YOU SEE MY 'STACHE?"
Edit: I am now listening to Bon Jovi at work. The problem is, my secret hobby is pretending to sing along to Bon Jovi in a really over the top way. I'm listening to "Bed of Roses" now and it's really hard not to fling my arms out and croon. >.>

Date: 2008-12-10 06:25 pm (UTC)Ahaha yay, Bon Jovi at work!

Date: 2008-12-10 07:11 pm (UTC)Oh man, after Bed of Roses was Next 100 Years. So dangerous, in terms of people not noticing me making a fool of myself. I almost laughed out loud.
Also I just noticed the parallels between FotC and the Monkees, except for FotC being a real band who write (and perform) their own songs.

Date: 2008-12-10 02:06 pm (UTC)"Living on a Prayer" is one of the best songs ever! That's something I really adore about Bon Jovi's songs - they're both very realistic in their topics, but very lyrical too. ^-^ (Which is the same reason I like Eminem's songs.)
Also, funny you mention HSM - just yesterday I read an absolutely hilarious re-cap of HSM2, which made me laugh out loud. XD I haven't seen any of the musicals, but I'm kind of tempted to watch the second one yet, just so I can laugh about it some more. XDD
Another topic - if I recall correctly you asked for sites that had mostly text and few pictures to read at work some time ago, didn't you?
Have you ever tried

Date: 2008-12-10 03:25 pm (UTC)Oh man! After I saw HSM 3, I saw 1, and after that I was like "Okay, I'm good. I don't need to see 2." But then it was on TV and it is HILARIOUS! Where is this re-cap? I wanna see! I saw it on the Disney Channel so they had all these little pop-up factoids and I enjoyed it way too much.
Oooh, I think I've seen that community around but I've never been to it! I will have to check it out! :D Thank you!!

Date: 2008-12-10 04:11 pm (UTC)Yeah - I swear, on of the reasons that I like Japanese songs is because I can enjoy the poppy music without having to subject myself to silly love lyrics I can understand...^^" (Though, to be completely fair, Arashi do have some surprisingly well-thought-out lyrics, whether that was planned or not. XD)
Normally, I prefer songs that have more interesting lyrics, which is why I like such different artists as Rammstein (HEAVY metal, sing about death and destruction and all things gory, BUT have an amazing knack at interpreting poems, myths and folklore without making it obvious that they're interpreting those), Billy Joel, Bon Jovi, Meatloaf and Eminem. XD
The recap is here. It's really great, if you like slightly snarky humor. ^-^
But... pop-up factoids? What's that?

Date: 2008-12-10 05:06 pm (UTC)I TOTALLY AGREE!! XD It's nice not to even have to think about what they're saying. But yeah, often when I do look into the lyrics they're less annoying than American pop songs - TOKIO songs tend to be about inner strength and overcoming obstacles, or whatever. XD Arashi's seem to just be unrelentingly positive. :D
Although in Western music. . . I don't know. I often tend towards musicians whose lyrics I can't understand, whether it's because of their singing style or their lyrical style (like Tori Amos - i can hear the words but I have no idea what they mean - same with the Band, a lot of the time). I like lyrics that create an impression or mood that supports the mood created by the song, I think. I don't want to start thinking about the lyrics consciously, most of the time. It's really easy for me to get distracted from enjoying the song that way. XD When I listen to punk - meaning, the Clash and the Ramones, the only punk I like - I sometimes enjoy paying attention to what they're singing about. But Joe Strummer is really hard to understand. XD
Haha, that is quite the spread of different artists! I like musicians from a variety of genres but that is pretty impressive. XD I-I like Billy Joel and Bon Jovi! ;) I actually haven't listened to much Meatloaf.
Yay, thanks for the link! :D
Ahh, pop-up factoids isn't really a thing. It's not something that's done commonly. I should have explained. You know Disney made the HSM movies? So this was a special version that they were airing where, throughout the movie, little purple boxes would appear on the screen with little bits of trivia or commentary about the scene. XD it was really silly and thus I enjoyed it a great deal!
MTV or something used to have a show where they would air music videos and do something similar, that's what most people would think of if you said little boxes with trivia in them were appearing.
