city trip

Welp, I'm 16 now. Feels a lot like being 15. Suspicious.

I'm sorry. I'm tired.

Anyway, I had a wonderful day in the city today. By "the city" I mean Manhattan. Me and Katie and David went in this morning, got there around 10. Then we found the E downtown and mucked around with Metro Cards. Slightly harrowing. Damn things. ::sigh:: Anyway, we got to Canal Street. Unfortunately we were still way north of Elizabeth, where we were eating lunch. Although it was ok because I love Chinatown and walking, but it was still quite a long walk and Canal Street isn't as nice as the side streets. We got onto Bayard soon enough though, and then it was fine. And we wandered and went into stores. I got candy.
well, fuck. fuck fuck fuck. i scanned a couple pieces cos they're really cool looking and I wanted to upload it but mac is being a bitch and won't let me open my public folder. shit.
well, I'll whip it into submission sometime when my dad is awake. I'm eating the candy now, so I've mellowed :D my anger passes very quickly, at least.

Anyway, we ate dinner and went looking for one particular candy store (that's where I got the chocolate coin that I'll show you sometime. the little boxes are from a store right next to the restaurant where we always go for lunch that sells a lot of anime and what-not merchandise). We kinda wandered aimlessly cos we weren't sure where it was, and on our way back to Canal Street we found it!

Oh yes. I forgot to mention. On the train ride in we were discussing how I have much more hair than katie or david, and Katie said that I could hide things in it. David took her seriously and wanted proof, so he gave me his pen and I spent the entire day with it woven into my braid. Katie and David say that you couldn't see it at all.

Anyway, we had another long walk back up canal street, but it was much more pleasant this time. we knew where we were going, we had candy, we bought little chinatown cakes (mini-pancakes, basically--maybe a bit sweeter. I like them) and everything felt more chinatowny, which made me happy cos I love Chinatown. not exactly sure why.

So then we got into the nice air conditioned subways (the Paris subways were so hot when we were there!!) and rode up to 53rd street. I noticed how close we were to broadway and times square and what-not, so I thought we could look for midtown comics. ::sigh:: it was farther downtown than I expected and we ended up walking rather far and not finding it. And we all got very hot. I feel really bad for dragging everyone around but it turned out ok. We went all the way back to 52nd St and the Museum of Television and Radio. We watched a little thing about stand-up comedians which was very amusing, and then went up to the Library and watched an episode of Fawlty Towers! That was cool, and funny :D

And then we walked up to Central Park. It was very, very lovely. I don't see enough of Central Park. We don't usually go there with Dad. We sat and chilled for a few minutes and then went on the search for a subway station. villanous people tried to confuse us with strange uptown-downtown signs. (and succeeded--David had to stop someone and ask) But we got to Penn Station all right. Then me and Katie got snacks (well, I got Snapple) and Dave got McDonalds (he had Defensive Driving at 6:45--we ate later) and we went to wait for the track to be announced. Track 13. When we got there, Katie, for whatever reason, did not want to head toward the back of the train (which hadn't arrived yet). She saw a lot of people going past and figured if they were all going there, then we should stay here. >.< ::sigh:: Ah well. Me and David finally managed to get her to move back, and we did manage to get 3 seats in a row. (unlike the westbound trip, when I sat across the aisle from them) I hate walking on tracks though. I'm always afraid someone will push me off. Whoever told me that should have kept their mouth shut, it haunts me every time I'm at a train station. I try to hug the wall as much as possible and whenever I get between a person and the track I get very, very nervous. At one subway station we had to pass this guy with headphones who was like, bouncing around, and he was next to a staircase so there was almost no room. ::shivers::

Anyway. David got Katie a Williams cow, and me a copy of Maskerade, and both of us this big Monty Python book :D And mom and dad got us lots of stuff in NH (remember all those purchases I listed before? I didn't pay for them) but they also got us these nifty little pad things.

mmm. Just one more thing I wanted to mention. I forgot to write it up in my monster entry, but on the way back from Loch Lyme we stopped at a Macdonalds to piss, and a vanload of Tibetan monks pulled in to take care of their business. Me and mom and grandpa were waiting outside while dad and katie bought food, and all these monks piled out of a van with a little trailer thingie on the back. They all went to the bathroom. They were bald, and were wearing robes that were dark red and a kinda macaroni and cheese color. I think actually it'd be called sunflower yellow in a crayola box. The skirts were the red, and the vests were red and orange. Except for one guy who had all his hair and was wearing jeans and a T-shirt. O.o Anyway, they had "Free Tibet" bumper stickers on the back of their monk-mobile, and they were being driven around by a very blonde woman. It was all very strange and interesting.

Anyway, this entry got kinda long, I think, so tell me if you want me to cut tag it.

Well, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Sweet sixteen, eh? Last year was your quinceanera, this year you get the sweet sixteen party, right? Or something of that nature. Yay!

Were the dudes at the McDonalds Hare Krishnas? I mean, were they Asian-looking, implying that they were real Tibetan monks, or were the European-looking, implying they were hippies?

It sounds like you had a nice day. ^_^

thanks :) I'm not having a sweet sixteen or anything though. I'm sweet enough already ;)

they were Asian--like, they definitely looked like real monks. It was very interesting. I'm not sure why they were driving around. . . I think this was in Conneticut.

I did :) It was good.
