As some of you may have noticed by various comments left places, I'm back.
::blink:: where was I? Mike is watching Zoolander and it's being extremely distracting and he seems to think it's the world's funniest movie. I'm not really liking it.
anyway. right. I'm putting on headphones. New Hampshire. Yes.
Well, I had a great time. :D Except that my mouth was giving me major problems the second week. I've gone to the dentist today and he says that this means root canal. If it doesn't go away soon, I'm going to go and see about things at a specialists. Except that my parents are going away til Wed, so it's going to have to wait til then. Although if things get really bad we might see if my uncle can take me earlier in the week. ::sigh::
So these kinda mucked up the last week of my vacation cos I was kinda radiating between 5 states: in serious agony, worrying that the agony would start, worrying that I was taking too much Ibuprofen, trying to get to sleep. . . and then the times when the Ibuprofen did work and I had a distraction and I could chill. ::sigh:: Once the Ibuprofen would not work, even after I took 2 (ugh) and I spent several hours writhing and crying like a baby on the couch, trying to breathe in a way that didn't hurt my teeth. O_O uuugh.
But that was the only real hindrance to a good time, everything else was wonderful. It was great having the cabin that was right on the lake, me and mom (the big swimmers in t' family) could run back and forth from the lake to our house, we didn't have to bring shoes or anything, or worry about forgetting something. Just walk out of the house into the lake :D (being careful to avoid lawn chairs and tables and all that).
The cabin is the only one with 2 stories, and the bottom floor is very comfortable--2 couches and all. The kitchen is good too, and so is the porch, except in the hot weather. There was also a pool table! O.o lol. One of those ones that can turn into a hockey or ping-pong thing, but pool was the only one you could actually play. So I learned to play pool :D I got vaguely good at it by the end of the vacation, too. Well, compared to how I was at the beginning. I still can't do anything when people are watching me. lol.
Apparently no one liked their beds except for me. I was right under the eaves of the house, but I never banged my head and I was quite comfortable. The problem was that in the first week, there were like, 4 days of incredible heat. Well, not incredible, but 95 degrees. lol. I've been reading about people in 105 degree-weather (and laughing!) so it could be worse, but it was still uncomfortable at night, on the second story, without fans or anything. Ah well. I swam a lot, it was fine. Poor Katie was getting her period and she doesn't do tampons, so she couldn't swim. [I haven't gotten my period in a while, just occasional bouts of crankiness. I'm getting kind of worried. But there's definitely no way I could be pregnant, so I guess I should just enjoy it ;)]
Then the next week was pretty chilly--not a lot of swimming, but that's ok cos my ears were being strange and I had plenty of swim time in the first week. It was kinda nice and cosy. We lit fires in the morning. Well, when I say "we" I mean someone else because I a) don't do fires and b) was asleep :D
I slept a lot and read a lot. Witches Abroad, Mort, Grendel. . . I started Turn of the Screw (the last 2 are for school), Color of Magic, Equal Rites (Mom got a lot of Terry Pratchett's from various libraries. I'm in the middle of Lords and Ladies at the moment--hopefully I'll be able to finish it in time for Mom to take it to Fredonia with her. then I go to Small Gods). I also reread Beauty.
ooooh, and we did very well with comic books! We found a comic book store in Lebanon, the Funnybook Factory. Well, they didn't have any SiP collections, but they did have some back issues! :D So I was able to buy the issues that would finish off the Love Me Tender tp (I was given 3 and 4 by
cloudtrader--the ones that got me addicted!). I was glad I remembered which issues to get, his numbering system is confusing ;) I like Love Me Tender--I like the ones that are focused on them and not the Parker Girls and all that.
I also got Molly and Poo, which was very interesting! lol. My grandpa finished his book too soon, and he read Molly and Poo!! I don't know what he thought of it, he didn't say anything. lol.
We also bought issue 51. WHOA!! I seriously need to catch up. ::sigh:: Actually, it's a really good thing, because it means that I have a lot of SiP still left to read, but as of now I'm so confused!! Francine!! She's. . . she's. . . whoa!!!! I hope they end up together!! Francie! Don't do anything stupid! The photo-y bits were interesting. And. . . what's happened to David?? :-/
We also got the 2 Nightwing collections we were missing. Of the ones by Scott McDaniel. . . or Daniel McScott? I can't remember. . . something like that. We got. . . Rough Justice and. . . dag, I can't remember. Not Love and Bullets, I think we still have that but can't find it, and not A Darker Shade of Justice. The other one.
So those were really good. And we got (::sniffles::) the second to last Impulse!! AAACK!! That sucks. I was happy to hear about Superboy, I'm kinda ashamed to say, but I'm so sad they're cancelling Imp!!
I was kinda disappointed in Molly in the Hunter: New Age of Magic. ::sigh:: Ah well. she kicks ass in Books of Magic. (far as I can tell. although they ended up changing her. . . well, never mind)
Other shopping--bookstore! lol. Well, I made a lot of good purchases, I wanna share them ;) First off, we got Smoke and Mirrors!! By GNeil! w00t!! I'm so excited, although I haven't gotten a chance to read it yet because Mom wants to be able to return all the interloaned books. I also got a hardcover collection of all 5 Hitchhiker's Guide books! yay! So now I can reread them. And we got this awesome big Batman book. And we got Beowulf (summer reading as well. lol.).
Kay. other NH related exploits. . . this is one of the reasons why we aren't going to stay in Lakeside anymore (it's also too close to the traffic and there's all the people like, in your front yard) is the wildlife. lol. There were chipmunks, which were cute. lol. I saw them a lot because I'd be lying on the couch reading quietly and they'd come out from under the mantelpiece and kinda run all over and eat crumbs off the carpet. I watched hir until s/he ran into the kitchen, then I got up. But then another time 2 of them came in while me and dad and Katie were in the living room and ran into the ktichen and we couldn't get them out. Katie tried to take pictures, so if they come out I'll show you.
The other animal, which was more of a problem, was the bat. lol. First mom and dad heard it shrieking in their closet, but didn't see it. Then a couple days later they were playing Trivial Pursuit and I was lying on the couch reading and playing consultant ;) and I saw it kinda swoop down and then disappear. Everyone got really paranoid after that (especially Katie) and we had dad bat-proof all the rooms. Well, I bat-proofed ours (this involves checking around with a flashlight. lol. But then Katie heard something between my bed and the wall and I just wasn't brave enough. lol.
But it gets better! A couple days later (Tuesday, I think) Katie was upstairs, I'm not sure where Grandpa was, mom was in the kitchen, and me and dad were in the living room. The downstairs is basically one big room, 'cept for the porch. So then the bat appeared. I'm not sure where from, but it couldn't get out. It kept circling and going towards the windows. We opened the door, but it couldn't figure it out. Pretty ugly, too. I know the hair thing is just an old wives tale, but I still covered my head with a sheet. lol. I wasn't taking any chances. We had no luck at catching it in a towel or getting it to go outside. Eventually it flew onto the porch, and we shut the door on it. We went and got Mr. Barker, who's the father of the family that runs the place (although it's been in Mrs. Barker's family for years and what-not) and he showed up with his special bat catcher. lol. This consisted of an empty ricotta cheese container and a paper plate. XD Evidently you wait til it's all curled up (and tiny! they get small!!) and slip the cheese container over it. Then you cover it with the paper plate and take it outside.
Well, he couldn't find it. >.> We never saw it again! So I'm guessing he managed to get himself off the porch. I mean, otherwise he'd've starved to death by now. . .
Anyway, we're in Balsam next year. Next 2 years, I believe. Which is neat, cos it's a great little cabin and we haven't been there in a while. We're hoping to be able to bring a friend, but I need a chance to ask her. I'd love to be able to bring Emily and Perin but a) I don't think we have room and b) emily is probably going to be working. So we're prolly just gonna ask Perin but the thing is that she's in Switzerland for the summer. So we're gonna have to wait, but you know--we have time ;)
Emily's great-grandma is sick, which is worrying. She's gone up to Boston. :-/ In fact, I had this weird nightmare about the whole thing. It was very weird, but scary. This was during the nap I took after I got back from the dentists. I think that's according to my SiP calendar, if I remember correctly today is Take a Nap Day. But last night I had a great dream just before I woke up. first, a little background. We had a fantastic Euro teacher this year, and we're going to have a hideous teacher next year in US. He's also the Academons advisor, which is a major reason why we can't get people to join. ::sigh:: So anyway, in my dream the Euro teacher was talking to us, and she said that the US guy had left and she was going to teach us again!!! w00t!! It was awesome, and it put me in such a good mood! lol. Because then we went to lunch (it was in a really weird building--definitely not my school. we don't have escaltors) and for whatever reason me and Katie were sitting with a bunch of our Academons boys. Aron was sitting next to me, only he was there, just his bookbag. But then he showed up and high-fived me and he was soooo happy and like, wreathed in smiles, and it was just so cute. (because this way we could get another very cool teacher to do Academons) So that put me in a really good mood.
O_O this entry is getting really long. whoa. I guess it's 2 weeks worth of stuff. . .
My friend Allie, who I was kinda worrying about. . . well, she's very much obsessed with boys. lol. She was always like that. I had fun tweaking her, I told her about this really good-looking guy who was there the week before who she's always liked, and she almost creamed her pants. We didn't spend a lot of time together until thursday, when they came over for dinner. It was fun. Then we went to Playwood and watched Miss Congeniality, which I actually really liked. Very cool.
Our report cards came while we were away. But not our AP grades, I'm afraid to say. I was really happy with my grades--I managed to get High Honor Roll w/ Distinction again :D So far I've gotten straight As in high school. . . but junior year is going to be difficult. I'm going to have to work very hard to keep this up. ::sigh:: Ah well. I think I can do it.
Anyway, the grades that kinda blew my mind were Euro. I got a 99 on the global history regents!! O_O Geez!! And I got a 98 for the year. woooow. And I got a 98 on the Math Regents (93 for year) The rest were all in the 90s and what-not.
ok. I've pratically written a novel so I'll shut up now. I'm going to try to look over people's pages, and check communities and stuff. And I have 2 new friends to take care of. Busy, busy, busy. (In the conventional definition, not the Bokononist one ;)
am going to David's in a bit.
it's good to be back :D I've missed you guys!!

Have you mentioned this to your doctor or anything? Not getting your period can be a sign that something's not normal in your body, especially if you ~know~ you're not pregnant. Go ask a doctor about it, please?
I also got a hardcover collection of all 5 Hitchhiker's Guide books! yay!
*poings* Much niftyness! :) I have the Ulitmate Hitchhiker's Guide, all 5 in opne big leather bound hard back... I'm in the middle of rereading it, somewhere in the middle of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
The other animal, which was more of a problem, was the bat.
Bats are cool :) When I used to go to summer camp, we'd have bats that slept in the rafters outside our dorms. It was cool. I hope the little guy/girl got out of the porch and got food.
it's good to be back :D I've missed you guys!!
:) Now I get to have someone commenting on my entries again... since no one else does that it seems.

Date: 2002-07-13 06:04 pm (UTC)I have so many things to read :D busy summer. this will definitely lure me away from the computer.
yeah, I hope s/he is ok! Bats are nifty, but not too close. Still, better than having a bird flying around. We could tell that the bat wouldn't fly into a window and kill itself.
:) lol. I can be counted on to comment. sometimes I try to restrain myself--I feel like I'm getting annoying.

Date: 2002-07-14 09:07 am (UTC)Regarding your period: the underweight thing shouldn't be an issue unless you've been losing weight, because you used to get it, right? How long has it actually been? Definitely worth looking into if it's been a few months now.
Oh, and it was really nice of you to comment on my journal on your trip, thank you.

Date: 2002-07-14 12:35 pm (UTC)Hmm. that's true. I did used to get it, and if anything I've gained weight. I'm not even sure how long it's been cos I didn't write down the date a couple of times. I'm checking my journal. I got it. . . March 15th, and I'm pretty sure I got it in April and didn't mention it. I don't think I got it in May because I remember being really worried that I'd get it for the AP and then never got it, and I didn't get it in June. So I think I haven't gotten it since sometime in April. :-/ When my parents get home I'll talk to my mom about it.
oh, well. my pleasure ;)
