Apartment, Work, Hellboy
Aug. 6th, 2008 09:07 pmSo, am living in the new apartment. Alone, which means lots and lots of singing along to stuff loudly. We're really not adjacent to anyone - only one tiny shared wall.
It's been fun but I'm really not something who's that well suited to being alone at night. XD Way too overactive imagination. Also, a huge bug attacked me Monday night. It was more horrifying than you are imagining, probably. ::sigh:: But I dispatched it. With much luck and much muted shrieking as it was 3:30 AM. But since then it's been good? And I am keeping everything very clean and doing a good job washing dishes and stuff like that. :D It's interesting. I'm still really, like. . . I want to get into a routine and have everything become familiar. Which, of course, it will, and quickly. But I like the familiar. XD It'll be fun when this big beautiful apartment starts to feel like home! It's still exciting. :D
In the meantime, I've been timing stuff a lot. How long it takes me to do all this different stuff, especially commute-wise. It's a 7-8 minute walk to the subway, which leaves at 7:45 (HAHA my train from home left at 7!!) and takes 35 minutes to get to work. It stops running on numbered streets (I live on the last stop, 95th St, and the last numbered stop is 9th) about halfway through the trip (and then runs on named streets).
Other news. . . I miss Ninja Warrior. :( I don't get G4 here. ::sigh::
Work has been crazy but good lately. I've been busy and feeling useful, which makes me really happy. And i think I'm starting to get on top of things. This is my fifth week. We just did something totally new for the first time, so it's stirred up all these crazy problems that we're dealing with. I've been talking to campaigns and stuff, it's fierce. But I actually have to talk with them much less than I was afraid I would because the Candidate Services Unit is fielding most of the calls, I think. I'm so relieved! They're my heroes. So are the Systems Unit who are always doing technical favors for us like generating spreadsheets of different combinations of transactions, and also who developed the program that enabled us to automatically email these reports. Instead of me preparing 78 envelopes and mailings. O_O It took me half a day to do three. Bad scene. It's. . . really complicated? XD Also, we have these labels to put on brown envelopes to show they're from us and they do NOT come off their backing! I think I spent about 20 minutes on them.
Oh, and I saw Hellboy II!! And I loved it!! It was so much fun. I totally, utterly adore Ron Perlman. Although strangely, Katie and I both felt that Hellboy looked. . . small in this one. Not that Ron Perlman isn't huge, but. . . It was weird because we thought his shoulders looked small - probably because the prosthetics make his head so big? But I was like "Man, Hellboy shouldn't have that narrow shoulders." And then I laughed and laughed at myself. What was I thinking? Hellboy has the worst posture in comic book history. XD But the best fucking stone hand. Also this is like the best panel in comic book history. Possibly only in context, I'm not sure. I think it's funny on it's own!
Anyway, yeah. The movie was lots and lots of fun. I laughed a lot and only had to cover my eyes for one scene, really. And there were lots of fucking awesome fight scenes that I could enjoy. Lots of Hellboy punching people.
For the record, however, in the comic, Hellboy does not have to hide. He does not freak out about being ugly and red and apocalyptic. He just rolls with it. And the BPRD get called to help people and Hellboy shows up and they're like "Hellboy, save us!!" Also, Abe is all tough and manly, like an old-timey cop. And he's with Liz. Hellboy is with Kate, who is kind of like the Jeffrey Tambor character - she started out as a BPRD supervisor type person but later started to do more field work. And Johann is a man of science, I think - not so much with the uptight shouties. I haven't read much with him though, I kind of stopped when Mignola stopped drawing them. I ADORE his art! And Dave Stewart's colors, of course. They blow my mind!
Oh, and roommate!Kelly is employed. Yay for her! Also whew, because I could not pay the rent on my own. XD
Also, it is a day for lusting after hyde again. My god, he is tiny and pretty. Uh, still. >.>
And I've been watching figure skating videos on the subway a lot. Still love them like a big dork. Especially pairs skating, although I was noting how hot Alexei Yagudin is today. Other guys should not wear the same costume as him at the same time, it does them no favors. I'm basically crushing on lots of Russians. In addition to Alexei, I'm seriously crushing on Elena Berezhnaya because you kind of have to. And of course, Katia. Ahhh! Who you also have to adore, really. And Sergei, because he's the most gorgeous thing even though he has 80's hair. Oh, and not-Russians! French Canadian David Pelletier. He's AWESOME. But really, all the men have amazing bodies. And the women, too, so tiny and cute. I love the contrast. I need videos that are either pairs skating or group numbers.

Date: 2008-08-08 06:37 pm (UTC)Also last night I was listening to all my dorkiest music. I will do so some other time so you can see that I have lots.
But apparently not The Boys Are Back In Town. :(
I will have to watch the performances of it by the Josephs on the BBC reality show "Any Dream Will Do." :D
::dorkgasm!::
Anyway, I figured that was all related but also watching figure skating on the subway is so much fun. I get all sentimental about Gordeeva and Grinkov.

Date: 2008-08-07 10:39 am (UTC)Anyway I have gotten so used to living alone in an apartment/house, which I had been doing since 2000, that it's been quite the adjustment to live with someone. I don't think I'm well-suited to multi-person accommodations. I'm way too much of a loner.
