i can mashed potato! I can do the twist!
Apr. 13th, 2008 01:08 pmMy youtube accounts were suspended. Both of them. Ugh. guingel was supposed to be safe! I'm really sort of sad about it - I lost a lot of stuff. First off, the TOKIO playlists, which I no longer have the energy to recreate. Plus, nothing stays on for long enough. :( Second off, well over 100 favorites, that actually, like, tracked my youtube history and my different interests at different times. ::sigh::
But in happier news. I went to a "Dive-in" viewing of a Little Mermaid yesterday night. Meaning we all went and played in the pool and floated on rafts and watched the movie, which was projected onto the wall. :D It was SO MUCH FUN! I hadn't been swimming in years and I love it, so I was really happy. And floating on a raft in the middle of a pool with one of my best friends, watching a Disney movie, is just such a fun way to spend your time. Said friend also held my glasses for me while I went for a quick dip. It did get quite cold after a bit, though. The room was warm but the water was pretty chilly. So we left after "Kiss the Girl." Awww, it was fun. Several dozen Smithies floating around in a pool together. XD So cute.
Also, as I put it this morning, I've discovered that John Barrowman is like an arrow aimed at the heart of my dorkiness. I keep watching these corny horrible shows he's in, thinking "I'll just watch John and then move on" and then getting totally sucked in. Like with "Any Dream Will Do," where I started watching loads and loads of the boys' performances. And then last night I watched him on "Dancing On Ice" and it was like "HOLY SHIT I LOVE FIGURE SKATING." I'd kind of forgotten. Oh man, pairs skating. I love it sooooo much. (Sadly, all the performances that I'd favorited on youtube are. . . lost. ::sigh::)
So I dug out my DVD of this Olympic Ice show that aired on the USA network during the last winter Olympics (05-06) and it's so funny and charming. The host, Mary Carillo, is a tennis person so there's a running thing of her sort of being amused and confused by some of the more strange aspects of ice skating as a sport - like, for example, the ice dancing costumes. She's always joined by their panel of medalists, so there's also a thing where she's always saying "Does anyone want to know what I think is going to happen in the mens' competition?" And they're all like ". . . No, not really." It's cute. Plus, her co-hosts are awesome. OK, I find Dick Button a bit annoying, but he's an institution. And she's also joined by Scott Hamilton, American gold medal winner and utter charmer! I love him so much!! And Tracy Wilson, Canadian bronze medalist in ice dance, and she's so sweet and I love her. And!! Jamie Salé and David Pelletier! :D One of my favorite pairs teams of all times. They're so funny. So great. I love them! So everyone is really funny and charming and it's a really cute, good show.
I seriously love pairs skating so much. Speaking of which, oh my god! Elena Berezhnaya had a baby with Steven Cousins. They've been doing Stars on Ice together, so I guess it was like an office romance. :D
I also discovered that the author of Doctor Who episodes "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances" is Steven Moffat, who wrote Coupling! I love Coupling! And I loved those episodes SO MUCH even though I watched them alone at night and they scared the pee out of me, oh my god. I still miss David Tennant in these Season 1 episodes but I'm also starting to really adore Christopher Eccleston. Much less hot, but totally adorable and loveable and awesome. I might possibly be switching back and forth between season 1 and season 2 episodes and season 1 of Torchwood. I'll admit to some slight chronological confusion.
I have to write a paper doing a cultural critique of a pop cultural form - I'm doing a Ramones song. But, ugh, I don't feel like being deep and fruity and culturaly.

Date: 2008-04-13 05:38 pm (UTC)ASDJGH I LOVE THE LITTLE MERMAID. There's nothing more appropriate than watching it while in a swimming pool, for serious. Win.

Date: 2008-04-13 05:44 pm (UTC)I highly recommend doing so if you can. :D I want to do it again in about a month, with Finding Nemo.

Date: 2008-04-13 05:51 pm (UTC)Also, I was so creeped out by "The Empty Child" initially that I was overjoyed that I had the next episode to watch right away. It was something like 12:30 in the morning when I watched them too. Steven Moffat also wrote a season three episode called "Blink" that is the creepiest thing I have ever seen in my life (and it has no continuity within the series, so if you want to watch it out of order, you can. It also has very minimal appearances by the Doctor, because they were filming two episodes at once or something and instead focused on the guest characters).
Have I mentioned that I saw John Barrowman in "Anything Goes" in London? Unfortunately, I didn't know who he was at the time but I recently found my program...

Date: 2008-04-13 07:29 pm (UTC)Yeah, maybe I'll wait and watch Blink when people are around, or something. XD Definitely not late at night!!
!!!! You saw him?? Oh my god! That's amazing! :D Was it a good show?

Date: 2008-04-13 11:54 pm (UTC)And speaking of John Barrowman, there's a Doctor Who-themed The Weakest Link (David Tennant was also a contestant) that is incredibly amusing to watch. :)

And indeed, Mr Moffat's episodes really rock. Especially the above-recommended "Blink".

Date: 2008-04-13 07:31 pm (UTC)I heard about that show! He's totally taking over British television, isn't he? If I was there, I totally wouldn't be complaining!!
It's funny, I know Steven Moffat from Coupling, which is hilarious - that he's now apparently specializing in creepy and scary is interesting!

Date: 2008-04-13 08:20 pm (UTC)Little Mermaid actually isn't one of my faves - i think I don't like her character design. She sort of annoys me. But it was definitely cute and fun to watch from the pool.
