well, first off, I did an oekaki: http://oekakies.com/p/brizz/p.cgi
or, alternatively: http://oekakies.com/p/brizz/19.png?229
and if you click the link above the picture, you can watch the video of how I made it.

I've realized you can see too much of her feet, but I'm pleased with it anyway, despite a couple flaws. 3 hours of work, I think. roughly that. And I did solid shading, which is a technique I'm rather fond of. only watercolors is in the shadowy thing around her. I wanted to do more with the background but I was a) slagged and b) not sure what to do.

much fun at party. although, believe it or not, I forgot to ask meghan. O_O I have problems.

but it was good. even though Emily had to leave for a babysitting job from 6:30 to about 9:15. gyaah!! luckily it was like, a block away from our house. rather convenient. Perin got me a Tori Amos CD: Under the Pink. Emily's presents are pending. lol. And David is getting some mysterious thing that he needs to buy in person after the fourth of july.

Really, really excited about going to New Hampshire. (see last part of this comment for details about Loch Lyme and my summer plans) A friend that we met there is going to be up for our second week, and she IMed me today and stuff. very, very cool. ::grin:: lol. I'm so longing to go. I keep getting Loch Lyme flashbacks. But Katie's kinda sad because we'll be gone the first two weeks of July, and then a few days after we get back David is leaving. crappy.

We dragged David with us to the mall though. He was kinda apprehensive about it, but we're not mall walkers--it was fun. he thought we were going to be girly and do clothes and whatever. Here's what we did: spent a very long time in B. Dalton (book store--I bought meself a copy of Terry Pratchett's The Fifth Elephant. one of my favorite books, possibly my favorite Discworld. :D) Then we ate: I had a hot dog and they both had fries. We examined David's newly bought Moliere book, discussed the French songs that our crazy French teacher taught us, and made the shocking realization that the people sitting behind me in the food court were even worse than Katie and David (in terms of PDAs. Actually, they aren't public--just in front of me.) Then we went to Noodle Kidoodle for a while. (which I refuse to call Zainy Brainy. Sin!! SIN!! And I don't even believe in sin!) At first Dave thought this was silly, but we all ended up being nostaligic and having a very good time. Then we kinda wandered around in the music store. Sam Ash. thass it. And then we went to the Sweet Shop. where I actually did not buy anything.

We had major problems driving though!! AUGH!! First we had to get directions, and we did manage to get ourselves there, but then David missed a turn after we were in the parking lot and found himself in Valet Parking, and had to do this interesting 3-point turn-ish thing in the middle of the parking lot (we made the same turn on the way out and got honked at. this time the only thing that happened is that the valet moved over towards us and watched.) Then we had to park somewhere different from usual, which threw our navigator (Katie--the only one with anything resembling a sense of direction) off, so we ended up circling the whole mall on the way out, and getting hideously lost, and finally getting back onto the Meadowbrook Parkway. ::sigh:: Where there was traffic, but it's ok. We all got home safe. I hope David got home ok after dropping me and Katie off. . . he lives fairly close. . .

Ah yes, and I got a 98 on my math regents. YEAH!! :D :D :D And Katie got a 96. Whooo hooo!!

My finals are officially over. Chem was far better than expected, but then, I might be jinxing myself ;)

yay for summer vacation :D

Oh yes. I've also gotten Emily started on comic books! We lent her this whole huge stack: several secret files and origins (and one "Secret Origins of the JLA" which isn't one of the file ones, just several different origin stories), The Life Story of the Flash (of course), JLA: Year One, Birds of Prey, my two Batgirl collections, JLA: World Without Grownups, Young Justice: A League of Their Own, Books of Magic, BoM: Bindings, and Death: the High Cost of Living. :D A good start, yeah? ;)
She's going to have to buy herself the Sandmans, I'm afraid, because I'm not allowed to loan them out. Although some time I'll invite her over and she can start to read them--we can have a big comics-fest.

fun fun fun!

lol. ok. that's all.

daaaaaaaaaaaang :whistles softly: very nice job with the oekaki. The more I look at that program, the more I'm impressed by what you do with it. The solid shading works great. The video was very cool. I got to see how you worked. :) Feet are a minor point. Nice job.

Happy summer vacation!

thank you :D The tablet is a big help. Like, it's next to impossible to sketch with a mouse. . . it's just a wretched experience.
Actually, I'm much more comfortable in the oekaki program than in Photoshop. I guess it's cos of practice. First computer drawing program I've ever used.

Anyway, thanks again ^_^ warm fuzzies!!
And the same to you!

yeah, I think it's like, a big pun or something. In the Discworld series, the planet is a big disc (duh) that rests on the backs of 4 elephants, which in turn are all on the back of this giant turtle (Atuin or something?) and they're all spinning through space. It's supposed to be ridiculous and funny. lol. And then there's this legend that a 5th Elephant slammed into the Disc at some point and all the metals and fats (cos they can harvest fat from the ground) and minerals and stuff are from his decayed body. lol.

I'm not allowed to loan my Sandman's out because they are worshipful and my dad is very very protective of them. He hardly let me take them out of his room.

btw, a million apologies for being a lazy whore about reading your journal. XP I'm a shmuck.

The best thing about 'The Fifth Elephant' is that it's set in Überwald. :D Which rules. It's Germany according to Terry Pratchett... I just love the Diet of Bugs! XD

I think 'Jingo' had to be my favourite, though. And did you ever read the story Terry Pratchett wrote with Neil Gaiman?

From: [identity profile] guingel.livejournal.com
Oh, yes. Jingo is way up there. Probably rivals Fifth Elephant, but I do love Überwald :D

Good Omens? Yes, I read it . ::grin:: It was so cool because someone on LJ (my memory fails, as usual) had told me, when I was saying how much I liked Terry Pratchett, that he wrote something with Neil Gaiman and I flipped. And then I mentioned it to my dad--and he owned it!! It was like, a miracle. lol. And now they're doing a movie of it and Terry Gilliam from Monty Python is directing. O_O It's like my dream come true or something. Neil Gaiman, Terry Pratchett, and Monty Python (although Gilliam isn't my favorite but that's ok) all in one.

They're making a film? Acks... Books never really seem to translate to film very well at all. Take 'White Fang' - classic book, cruddy film. Although, I still want to see an AaSH film. If it were to be done in CGI, so I had a shinypretty GCI Florian to drool over...

yes, this is true. I remember reading something written about a question and answer session of Neil Gaiman, and they asked about the Sandman movie, and he kinda got tense and said he no longer had anything to do with it because "No one should have to butcher their own child," I believe is the quote. Meep. I'm still interesting in seeing it. Good Omens, I mean.

(btw, I've just gotten up to the Diet of Bugs. Bwahahaha! It [the real one] came up as an Academons question, and Friedman read it as "worms", and our teacher always said "Vorms" [roughly. maybe vehrms would be better]. . . and everyone in Academons has had the same Eur Hist teacher, so the entire room yelled "Vorms!!".)

Isn't it funny the way everyone knows the 1521 Diet of Worms, but no-one can remember the subsequent Diets of Nürnberg, Spires, or Augsburg?

Uh, yes, that was random... *pokes Charles the V with a sharp stick*

That's some totally rad oekaki work there, Laura! Very very nice. Yay, Secret!

And good for you corrupting others to the comics side of the Force. Get her all nice and addicted and then become her supplier. Heh, that's what I did with Al...

thanks :D

lol. Yes. . . that's my plan. . .
Next I think I'll give her some of my JLA and JSA collections. . . I'm not sure what else. Robin: Flying Solo and a Nightwing. Either Ties That Bind or Darker Side of Justice. Much fun. Perin was having a good time listening while I briefed Emily on what I was lending her. . . maybe I can corrupt her next. . .

Hey, can you recommend a starter Pratchett? I've been meaning to get into her work for some time.

Yay for NH!! :)

lol. this is guy-terry. Not girl-terry. But anyway, if you want to go chronologically, you should start with Guards, Guards! but if you don't mind, the Fifth Elephant is good. So are Maskerade and Carpe Jugulum. (Maskerade comes first) There's like, stories about the watch (the city policemen, basically), and stories about these witches, and then there are some random stories that don't involve either. Guards, Guards! and the Fifth Elephant are about the Watch, and the other two are about the witches. all are very good.

yes :D I cannot wait to leave. but then, I kinda can because I need to pack and kinda clean up and stuff. oy.
