Jun. 19th, 2002 07:44 pmkatie and david are going out now. wow. mad cool. :) it took long enough!!
anyway, david's over here now, and I feel kinda like the third wheel. actually, they're on the couch kissing (so weird to think of my Katie kissing ;) and I'm on the computer, so I'm not really disturbing something, but I keep feeling like I should leave. I guess if it was a problem they'd leave, right? we have other couches. . . Still. David asked me if I minded, and I don't, but I was wondering if they mind.
it's weird. whatever.
social studies regents yesterday. we had today off. :D much fun. Tomorrow is math, then French and chem on friday.
Social studies went well. It would have gone better if I'd read the packets she gave us but I think I was able to write pretty good essays. (the multiple choice are not a problem. :D)
I saw Moulin Rouge, cos we just got a DvD player and mom took it out from the library. At first I really didn't like it, and then I liked it, and now I'm starting to warm to it. Like, I don't really like the story (too sappy, I guess--too pop-ish) but I like a fair number of the songs and dances. Not the Can-Can, I think that looks really bad. But I'm loving the tango. I had a great time with the extended dance sequences on the second disc. And I like the part when they first go to the Moulin Rouge, whenever they played Smell Teen Spirit and showed all the guys. Especially the first time. Very cool. Gives me the shivers in a good way.
much web-comics in my life. I'm currently reading RPG World. (too lazy to get the address. feeling kinda drained) And I finished reading Shaw Island, and Spooner, and Something Positive. I really loved all of them. And I have one or two more to read ^_^. Many thanks to
igymeth and
diziara.
have I anything else to say? Birthday party on friday, early cos of vacations (even our parents are going to be gone until evening on our birthday cos they're going up to Fredonia for orientations). I'm kind of excited. Since no one's home during the summer, we usually end up postponing our birthday party and holding it much later. like december. so then we don't call it a birthday party and we don't get gifts and what-not. So this is my first party with gifts in a fair while. kinda nifty. I've sent people out to get me Tori Amos and Dar Williams CDs and Terry Pratchett books. :D heh heh.
Must order 9 Hour Films shirt!! so lazy! gyaah! >.<
all right, I can't think of anything else. my life is uneventful in summer. :)

Date: 2002-06-19 08:09 pm (UTC)I loved Moulin Rouge, although I totally know what you mean about the plot. I liked the dancing, the visuals, some humor, stuff like that. The tango dance was my favorite part of the whole movie. Extended dance scenes? oooh! I think I need to buy/borrow/steal that DVD!

Date: 2002-06-19 08:26 pm (UTC)yes, the tango was absolutely my favorite part. I watched the extended (and the multi-cam!) so many times :D The dance is fantastic, and I really liked the song too.
I didn't really like the surrealistic filmography (if that's the word I want) the first time around either. Like, especially the beginning. But when I watched it again it scared me less. ;)
I also really liked the Spectacular Spectacular song (the one sung in the elephant) and of course, Ewan McGregor :D

Date: 2002-06-20 06:15 am (UTC)::sigh:: lol. nah, it was ok.
yeah, a lot of it was too weird for my tastes. the surrealism and the anachronisms in the music and stuff were the stuff I really didn't like about it. (and the basic premise)

Date: 2002-06-20 08:36 am (UTC)Nine hour films shirts rock! Esp. since now we've had the best most fabulous news in forver, celebrate with a shirt! ; )
Moulin Rouge...don't tell my roommate, but I'm really lukewarm about. I did like it, but I dunno, I don't like Baz Luhrman. I got really upset that they never stayed on anything long enough for my mind to process and sure that's a style, but I don't think he even did THAT well enough.
I just don't like the man.
I agree, the story was very pop-ish, and I didn't believe that they fell in love that quickly, which is a pet peeve in many many many movies.
BIRTHDAY? WHERE?

Date: 2002-06-20 11:54 am (UTC)I will order my shirt tonight. And ask my mom something. . . I can't remember what though. crap!
yeah, I agree with you on Baz Luhrman. I didn't like Romeo + Juliet at all, although Claire Danes looked drop dead gorgeous in it, if I remember correctly. I do want to see Strictly Ballroom though, if only for the dancing. . . I'm intrugued. And yeah, I don't like the style where you can't process and fully absorb something. just hurts my head.
yeah--it says they fell in love at first sight, which I've decided I don't believe in, and then it's like. . . the only time he saw her before they'd made their declarations of love was when they were dancing and in the elephant, which is when she thought he was the Duke and was pretending to be something she's not. So he shouldn't have fallen in love with her--he fell in love with the "smoldering tempstress." >.<
lol. 4:00 PM tomorrow at my house. Although I really won't be 16 until July 17th, but whatever. :D
