So, I don't know if people remember the big height/weight/age/everything stats sheet that I made for many of the Johnny's groups a while ago? Well, I updated it and fixed some mistakes and added some stuff, and I think a couple people expressed interest in seeing the new and improved version. It now lacks Yahx3. ::sniffle:: If Taiyo was still a Johnny's, I was going to have a little section just for him, because he's part of why I made the thing. As is, he just gets one mention.

But! It now has hopefully more accurate numbers for everyone, even though TOKIO's are still from 2001 (and I couldn't figure out what they said about Yamaguchi's weight, as you can tell. I linked to the videos I used as a source, so if anyone deciphers that. I'm assuming he's 58 kg, it would just be hot if he was more). And it now includes Kinki Kids. And most excitingly, it includes information about how old people were when they debuted (which you could have calculated from the other one but now it's all there for easy comparison) and, to the extent that I could find it, information about how old people were when they first joined Johnny's. Fascinating stuff, no? (They're also in a different order, cos I'm like an unsubtle explosion)

Tildes mean approximately. I'm not sure if that's a universal usage or something weird i picked up in math class, so I thought i should mention it.

It is available for download here.

For now I'm just posting it here, because I don't know if there's a reason to spam all the comms with it again. Although I hate the thought of there being all those horribly mistaken versions out there, I don't know if people will care enough to download it again. But anyway, I included my contact info in there anyway, so feel free to link people to this entry, or right to the download, or whatever, if you think you know someone who might be interested.

I handed in my paper yesterday. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!! I think I did a good job except I DIDN'T SPELLCHECK!! IT'S BEEN HAUNTING ME. AUGH!!

Now I just have my math take-home to do for noon on Tuesday, which I will hand in tomorrow.

Last night, rum and coke party in Rouwenna's room. Rouwenna is a friend of mine that I don't mention often here, she lives down the hall from me and was right below me first year. She spent the summer in Puerto Rico where she bought special rum that you can only buy there that's apparently really meant to be drank (drunk?) with coke. I was like "Well, ok. . . but I'm still not hugely crazy about the taste of rum and coke, I just like it better because it tastes more like rum and less like coke." But actually, it was genuinely good.

And we all just relaxed and chatted and I showed everyone this video, which is actually my single favorite video on youtube and everyone should watch it. It just makes me happy! I say to watch it without trying to convince you to like anything new, I'm not trying to convert you to a musical artist. It's just a fun, adorable video. And everyone really liked it!

And then later, I wanted to play Sly and the Family Stones (they're so good and everyone should listen to them!) so I turned on my laptop and we connected to my iTunes, and people liked Sly, and then we listened to my music for a bit - Led Zeppelin, and then Wilson Pickett. The latter is someone else that I think just produces really, really great music, I love it. Even if you think you haven't heard of him, if you're American, you're probably familiar with some of his songs. Also, he does this awesome Sugar, Sugar cover. That's right, the Archie's song. XD

So yeah, we danced, we drank, we made really sketchy pina coladas from really sketchy coconut milk - it was loads of fun. Except everyone wanted to go to bed early, so I was left at 11:30 all energetic and pumped and slightly buzzed. But not drunk, like after I was drinking with Steph and made that drunk post. I was able to use the computer and stuff. XD

Then tonight I went to a Todd Rundgren concert with Chesney (another friend, who was at the rum and coke party. She's a total sweetheart) and her family. Man, it was amazing. Katie is a bit of a Todd fan. . . Todd Rundgren is an American musician who was probably most popular in the early 70s but has been doing stuff forever. He's had a couple fairly popular songs - I think Hello, It's Me was his most popular? Basically, in my generation you'll mainly have heard of him only if your parents were fans. Which mine were not, but anyway.

Katie likes him - we found him partly through the Almost Famous soundtrack and probably partly through David - but I always thought he was a bit too light, too soft rock. Well. He was. . . the rock was hard tonight! It was loud and intense and awesome! I mean, none of the songs really stood out, because they were all sort of the same heaviness - I liked some and I didn't like others and that was about as much passion as the individual song quality was able to get out of me. But as a concert, it was AWESOME! It was cool. And it was incredibly entertaining because it was like. . . baby boomers at play. So many middle aged men getting really pumped up and rowdy. Oh my god. It was hilarious. Shouting "TODD IS GOD!!" and stuff like that. Chesney and I kept cracking up. They are crazy about him! It was so cool and fun and entertaining - my first time going to a concert of someone who was popular back when rock sort of owned music and all that. All these guys that I guess were like, sort of rebellious in the 70s, always going to rock concerts, now all balding and responsible. Incredibly fun to watch. And in general, I've mentioned this before, I love seeing other subcultures, and I love seeing people be enthusiastic about stuff.

But yeah. There was a lot of energy, and the songs that I liked were definitely awesome - just, sort of, more awesome to see live, I don't know if I'm going to look into getting any of his mp3s or anything. I was bouncing in my seat, though. It was actually the first time I really understood something that I came across when I was reading everything I could about the Clash. They did a concert in a hall, rather than a club or somewhere where people could dance, and the audience actually tore the seats out of the floor so they could move and dance and be free. And someone, probably Joe Strummer (featured in icon), said that rock isn't meant to be experienced sitting down. At the time, I interpreted the whole thing as one of many things that said to me "Laura, you love the Clash's music now, but if you'd lived at the time, there is absolutely no way you would have wanted to be a part of the punk scene!!" And that's true, but at the concert today, with all of us just sitting there, I definitely felt like it was not the right way to experience rock. Of course, most of the audience was too old to do a lot of dancing. Actually, when I saw Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers a couple weeks ago, we were down on the dancefloor, and it was a lot of fun. Even though no one was really dancing. I may have been dancing the most. XD I get into music, I feel it with my body - even though I kind of have terribly rhythm. XD Oh well!

Anyway. This is sort of. . . my musical world is really different from Johnny's Entertainment. I feel like this entry demonstrates that - I'm dropping all these names and probably people will have heard of very few of them? Which is fine, it's just weird for me to be sort of in both worlds.

Two random TOKIO ones

Recently on DASH, Taichi's weight was announced at 53kg. That skinny man.

And Matsuoka's is not stable. He tends to gain and/or lose weight for roles. Like for YAOH he gained then lost 6kg. Then buffed up for JAILBREAKERS and Taiyo no Fune. Then gained a bunch for Hissatsu. Then lost it again so the magazine shots look waaay different from what he looks like in the actual drama. (^_^)

Whew!! I actually had Taichi at 53kg! He must weigh the same as he did in 2001, then. Geez. So pocket-sized!

Ah, that's right, Mabo's all up and down. Poor guy. I won't stress too much about what I have then, and will assume it was correct at some point in the last two years or so.

Oh, the statistics - I wonder what my old maths-teacher would say if he knew how interested I can get in numbers? XD (He did his best to cure our whole class of any enthusiasm for the subject by being completely confusing and then maintaining that it was simply because we were too stupid to understand maths, after all... v-v")

Anyway, the revised statistics look really good! ^___^

A few little things that I noticed: In a rather recent interview (I think it was an interview, at least!) Ohno said that he entered the jimusho in October 1994, making him thirteen at the time. And I can't remember where exactly I read it (might have been [livejournal.com profile] honooko's pimp post), but somewhere I read that Ohno and Nino both admitted at a concert that they (or at least the jimusho) cheated a bit with their height, making Ohno 1 and Nino 2 centimetres taller than they actually are. (Though that isn't really all that much of a difference, since they usually wear shoes that make them appear taller anyway, so for public appearances they are indeed the given height. It's only at times like the "Iza Now!" Tour, when there's a song that they dance barefoot, that you suddenly notice how much smaller than Sho Ohno actually is.)

Also, this doesn't have an effect on your chart, since I think 55 kg is a good average for Jun; but in the last interview that [livejournal.com profile] aatash translated, Jun gave his weight at "something around 60 kilos". I'm not sure how serious he was (seeing as he made a joke beforehand about "being about as tall as Chinen-kun"), but I think it might mean he's in the upper 50's at least, which makes me incredibly happy, because YAY! Jun's not a walking stick anymore! ^_______^

But, say, what's the deal with Jerry Orbach? Any reason he got used? (Not that I mind the amusing randomness, I'm just curious!XD)

That concert sounds like fun! I once went to a Meatloaf concert and despite it not being what most people my age listen to, it was a lot of fun, because I knew all the songs by heart. XD Some of those old guys our parents listened to are still really cool!

I've never studied statistics, but now I sort of want to! I should have taken it at Smith but I didn't really get a good opportunity. Oh well!

I updated Ohno's entrance date (so there's a new download link up there!), but I left the heights - although that's totally, totally adorable! (OK, I just like to think of Nino being tinier than he really is) I would probably drive myself crazy if I tried to figure out what their actual heights were compared to what's being published, plus the source is so nebulous. Not that my sources are particularly reliable a lot of the time, but still! Also. . . if I change their heights now, I need to change all the averages and ranges and rankings. XD At one point I did compensate Subaru's height for lying, but I think that was published in a jweb, so I felt a little better about it. Taichi's also admitted he's given three different heights and he has no idea how tall he actually is, but i'm just not going to worry about it! I bet a lot of of them lie. XD

Ahh, I would be happy if Jun had put on some weight, too. Poor kid. I love him all the time, but I only find him attractive in 2003, and Katie suggested that maybe he had a little extra flesh at that period.

Jerry Orbach. . . hehehehe. I don't even know how we started this, and I don't even watch Law and Order, but we (Katie and I) sort of love him and we started ranking everyone based on how Jerry Orbach-like he is. It's pretty arbitrary - not exactly based on looks or personality or anything, but rather an overall feeling of Jerry Orbach-ish-ness or lack thereof. XD So when I was doing all these crazy stats, Katie was like "Hahahaa, you should compare them all to Jerry Orbach!" And I was like "You know what, I will!" But the amount younger actually does work as an age ranking, which you don't have elsewhere. hehehehe.

Some of those old guys our parents listened to are still really cool!

Actually, those are still the guys I listen to. XD Almost all of my favorite musicians were active in the 60s and 70s - classic rock, motown, a little soul, some glam and prog, and a little bit of punk (just the Clash and the Ramones). I just don't go to concerts of them often - partly cos many of them aren't touring. And Clapton or Led Zeppelin concerts are expensive like whoa!! Levon Helm, of the Band (http://guingel.livejournal.com/221955.html) (my favorite group that I can't shut up about), does these small performances in upstate New York where all the guests bring food and stuff - I'd love to go to one of those!

I had to do statistics (well, the basics at least) for my diagnostics seminar, with the very sensible thought behind it that, if we have to use intelligence-tests (special needs teachers in Germany are required by law to use intelligence tests when we assess children), we should also understand how they work. I have to admit, I didn't understand half of what they were talking about, but it sure was interesting! ^__^

I've just discovered that Ohno's statistics are DIFFICULT! I know from this one interview (which I can't find at the moment, even though I know that I read it not too long ago) that he had his audition in October 1994. In the "Waratte Iitomo" interview he says that he joined Johnny's in his second year of middle school; and as far as I'm aware, most Japanese pupils in that grade are around 13/14, which would make it very likely that he was 13 in October. But in the Shonen Club Premium interview, he says that he was 14 when he joined! Which is kind of confusing, really.
The only explanation I have is that it was his audition that took place in October, and that he only got his acceptance letter and/or working contract in late November, which would, with any luck, indeed make him 14 when he "really" joined and took part as a junior. (Well, either that or Ohno can't remember his own age anymore - and while he might have problems remembering the title of his newest single, I'm still not inclined to believe that!)

Yeah, the height thing is very strange.^^" Especially since a lot of them wear shoes with little heels, or platform shoes a lot of times, so their height is extremely deceptive anyway. And then, of course, you've got the "subjective height" thing - Ohno actually looks big next to Taichi, but put him on stage together with his group, NEWS and KAT-TUN and you suddenly notice that he's actually the shortest guy all around. (And then you've got the "subjective height" thing in a very different form, like I experienced today when I was watching the Iza Now Tour and my mother came in during the perfomance of Pika**nchi Double and her first comment was "Oh God, they're all so tiny! Look at them, they're so skinny! And those tiny little arms they have!" ^^")
I only noticed (or really remembered) the height thing with Ohno and Nino, because it made sense of a few things that had been puzzling me: A lot of times when they stand next to each other, Ohno seems to be a bit taller than Nino. Even accounting for the facts that a.) Nino slouches quite often, b.) Ohno sometimes wears shoes with slightly raised heels and c.) Ohno's hair tends to stick up a lot, it still didn't account for all the times I noticed (especially in the older D/GnA episodes, when they were wearing sneakers and they both had head-rags on, or something) this, because while 2 centimetres isn't huge, it's still enough of a difference to be noticable. (One of my best friends is two centimetres taller than me and it's always visible in photos.)
But a height difference of one centimetre often isn't noticable at all (especially if Ohno should stand just the tiniest bit straighter than Nino), so when I read that Ohno is supposed to be 1,65 in reality and Nino 1,66 those numbers made more sense to me than the offical 1,66 and 1,68.

But, in the end, we couldn't really say how true those numbers are unless they either agreed to let themselves be measure on television, or we had a video of them standing next to all the other people in the business, who're supposed to be the same height as they are, so I think the numbers 1,66 and 1,68 are as good as any. XD (It still makes them tiny! XDD)

Ahhh, it's so hard to figure out what's truth and what's not. Cos actually, it's pretty easy to imagine that they would make a mistake, especially with dates and ages. I find I do that often. "No, no, that totally happened in third grade!!" And then we find a picture of me with my fourth grade teacher on the field trip or whatever it was. So sometimes, even if I actually hear a boy say himself when something happened, I have my doubts.

But yes - it's very confusing, trying to find out when anything happened. XD Welcome to my world! Trying to do that for everyone, I just had to settle sometimes.

My fascination for everyone's heights - and especially relative heights!! - is definitely the primary reason for making the stats sheet in the first place. Everyone else is like "skinny! skinny!!" and I am a little, but mostly i'm like "SHORT! TALL!!" (that's me looking at TOKIO, I guess. XD

On the subject of subjective heights, I always find Sho looks shorter than he is - that is, he looks shorter on his own, and then when you put him next to Jun, he's not that much smaller. I assume it's because he's wider. I totally thought he'd be closer in height to Nino than to Jun, and I was really surprised when I first assembled the numbers, but since then when I've been looking at them together, I notice that he is sort of tall - for Arashi, who are one of shortest groups! (Which you can now see - it's weird how much Kamisen brings down the average for V6! They should be in the middle, you'd think. NEWS is a lot taller than I thought, too!) Actually, I find the opposite of you - I always think Ohno looks a bit shorter, again, because Nino is so slender.

There was some translation, maybe of Nino's jweb? I think that's what it was. And he was talking about how they lay out the clothes for the concerts, so they'll be labelled: Jun, Sho, Aiba. . . and then "Nino or Ohno" and "Nino or Ohno"!! XD Nino was peeved about it, but I think it's SO ADORABLE! They're so tiny! XD Apparently height is a more important factor than breadth in their costume sizes!

Jerry Orbach was really cool! We have the old reruns of Law&Order here quite often and I always enjoy watching him! I really like his calm presence! ^___^ (Though, what kind of age do you take for Jerry? How old he would be now?)

Actually, those are still the guys I listen to. XD

Me too! ^______^ Most of the bands I listen to started out in the seventies or eighties, even if some of them (like REM) didn't really get huge publicity until the early nineties. But yes, that period in time had some amazing singers/composers and I never understood the need to distance myself from my parents' musical taste when those old guys were actually good.

And Clapton or Led Zeppelin concerts are expensive like whoa!!

I know! I saw the news coverage on the Led Zeppelin reunion concert and wow, those tickets really brought in money big time!

The Band sounds awesome!!! (Fiddle?! Not one front singer?! Count me in! ^_____^) I think I'll download the songs you put into your comments down there (if you're OK with that, of course) and see whether my parents know them. XD

Yes! He has so much presence, and dignity. He's the man. But sadly, he's passed away. He was an organ donor, though - he even donated his eyes! I once got a bizarre phone message from a friend. . . they were advertising how you should donate your eyes after you die, and the poster said stuff about Jerry Orbach, that he's gone but because of him two people can see. But the reception was really bad and the message just turned out bizzare! XD I was so confused!! If Leader is 35 years younger than him, then he would be only 72 now, I guess. That's pretty young!

My parents raised me on the Beatles, and they introduced me to Dire Straits, who I love very much, but actually a lot of the music from their time that I like, they didn't listen to. I think my sister's boyfriend introduced us to a lot of the groups. They did listen to the Band and Eric Clapton, but didn't share that with us - I didn't even know they had Band albums! But when I get into Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix, they were not fans in their day! XD I like my rock a bit harder - i think because it's aged and out of context now. i like my music out of context!

DOWNLOAD AWAY!!! :D I don't know how much popularity they had internationally. . . I can't think that they ever toured Europe. Although I have some Japanese posters and album covers!! Very cool. XD

Fiddle?! Not one front singer?! Count me in!

I know, right?? :D It's great! I was actually at a concert where they played the mandolin for one song, and my friend and I got so excited just seeing the mandolin waiting on the side of the stage! Me because of the Band, her because. . . I don't know, I think she just likes mandolins! XD

Anyway, I hope you like them! If you do, I love to talk about them! :D None of my friends like them, just Katie, and because we agree so often, it isn't that rewarding talking to only her about stuff like this.
