Aug. 17th, 2006 05:01 pmI've been lying around watching grey's anatomy pretty much since work ended. XD Except that on Sunday I met
snortney08 and her parents in the city for the day. We walked up fifth avenue to central park, got hot dogs, took the C train to our show. I don't think I'd ever gotten on the C train at 59th--that 59th and 8th Ave is a weird station. It was also extra exciting because there was a huge Dominican Republic Parade thing going on in the city that day--I recently learned from Wikipedia that the Dominican Republic is one of the four largest countries of origin for immigrants to NYC (the other three are China, Jamaica, and Russia)--so while we were waiting on the platform, a large contingent of parade marchers walked through the station. I think they'd just gotten off a train. Anyway, it was exciting.
Right, I got sidetracked. Because we took three subway rides, and each time I knew how to get to the station, but I had some minor issues finding the right platform. But I eventually got it right each time, we didn't get on the wrong train or the wrong direction or anything!
So, the aforementioned show was Sweeney Todd. it was really good, really cool. The set was sort of simple--I was a little disappointed, I wanted to see people sliding from barber chairs into ovens or whatever. But it was actually really effective, I liked the palette and the cast and everything. Although there was this white block they kept carrying around, I'm still not sure what that was. . . And it was cool cos we saw significant portions of the original cast.
Then we got back on the C to go down to Chinatown. I know, it's not the best way--we took it to where I get out for work, which is within easy walking distance of the restaurant we were going to (on Elizabeth street, in between Canal and Bayard--Shanghai Dimsum, I think. . . anyway, i've been going there since I was, like, 8 and I love it) and I knew that that way I would be sure of exactly where we were going and how to get there. Dinner was good, then we wandered around chinatown a little and caught the W up to 34th st. Courtney wanted a subway map, so we ended up going to Penn station to get it. Then I caught my train out (our timing was perfect, by the way. It was really great) and they went to their ferry.
And yesterday I had a successful trip to the dentist! Successful but without warning. I knew it was sometime this week, but no one told me it was yesterday. I was distressed. But hey, no cavities, and my dentist says it looks like my wisdom teeth aren't going to be a problem in the near future.
Last week of work was good. I got quite sentimental. My boss gave me a book about London and everyone got me a card. Sam said I would be very difficult to replace and Jon asked me to come back next summer. :) It's nice to know that there are people who want to hire me in the future.
Oh, and we went to the Met after work on Friday and they had a Rembrandt drawings and prints exhibition! It was awesome!! I adore Rembrant. They actually had 2 prints in a series of 5. Smith has 2 of the others, and I'd gotten to see them during my Dutch Painting class. So I was so excited, and I recognized them from across the room and it was awesome!!
yeah, that's about it. i need to shower and clean my room.
