Apr. 24th, 2003 11:04 pmI'm going to be away for the rest of the weekend--we get back on sunday but I'm not sure when and I'm going to have a lot of stuff to do. . . so I'm not sure when I'll write next. could be a couple weeks, or even more. . . or it could be on Sunday--hopefully I'll be able to get on at some point.
We went to the mall today--very successful trip!!
1) We (me and Katie) bought Spirited Away! Woo hoo! I've wanted the DVD since we saw it in the theater. lol. We first saw it for $30, but our friend told us it was on sale elsewhere, so we got it for $20--only 10 each :D
2) I got to buy a comic book (again, with Katie's help--but she wouldn't have bought it if I wasn't there). Whenever we go there, the bookstore sucks me in (bookstores call to me! :D) and I always go and check out the comic book section. Usually they don't have anything that we don't, but today I found Nightwing: The Hunt for Oracle. We have the actual 4-issue miniseries crossover thingie that actually bore that name as individual comics--but this trade paperback also included several of the Nightwing's leading up to it, which we did not have, and which I'd never read. So I was vastly pleased. Especially because I've just been reading the Incidentals storyline, by nw's chick (I've finished! ::wails:: No more Incidentals to read!) and even though Tim is definitely my favorite (I seem to be alone in this), I was definitely turned on to Nightwing too :) Incidentals surprised me because it was a pairing that I'd never thought of and that surprised me (because of the age difference, mainly, and it takes place when they're a bit older), and it was really, really good. A little too much Dick worship and not enough Tim worship, but I take what I can get--aside from that it was fantastic!
Katie wants me to read Sea & Sky now. I'd started it before, but it never stuck, even though I enjoyed it. I've been reading Incidentals non-stop--and there are waaaaay less. Eh. I just like Tim so much!! :D
I also read the part in Crisis on Infinite Earths where Barry dies. :( I love Barry--my very favorite character! So I had to see his noble sacrifice. He's the best :D
3) We also got ourselves things at K. B. Toys. I got Digimon erasers :D and Katie got teeny tiny pens.
Oh, speaking of tiny things, we saw the cutest little dog! It was so small! It was sitting in the crook of this guy's arm, and then he sat down near us at the food court and the little dog was kinda wandering in the little area between the tables--it was so cute and fluffly. It was a little dark terrier or something.
4) Katie got herself some cool stuff--a bag with a Monet painting on it--very pretty, and this little round fluffy stuffed chick that chirps. It's so cute!
5) We bought our parents an anniversary card--20 years on May 15 :D
I think that's all. Huh. Everything except the erasers I bought with Katie. lol.
OK. I gotta go to bed now.
I have a lot of reading left to do, kinda. I'm taking some with me--as well as SAT practice tests. We'll see what I get to do. Uhm. . . (I keep trailing off cos I'm tired ;) I think I would have been able to work things out ok except for my sketchbooks. I have 3 more to do--and all when I should be studying for my APs!! Augh! And I'm not sure what to draw or how. My theme is Life. I want to return to it because I've been kinda just drawing what I want and then relating it. lol.
My art teacher is a pain in the ass though!! Augh! She's not easing up for APs at all--not only are there these sketchbooks, but she's also not giving us enough time to finish our latest project, so I'm going to have to come to extra help or something. shit. I don't like her. She likes me half the time and doesn't like me half the time. ::shrug:: She's a pain and she gives better grades to people she likes and lets them get away with a lot. I'm not going to get started on the copywrighted (sp?) characters thing. . . ::spits:: (figuratively)
ok. I'll pull through. I need to start working harder though--I've really kinda not been as diligent this vacation as I should have--except that I usually do most of my work in the days that are coming up, and I'll be away!! Very inconvenient. . . I wish we'd gone away earlier, but this is when Wellesley held their thing. ::sigh:: Oh well. I'll be ok.

Date: 2003-04-25 05:10 am (UTC)May 3rd is Free Comic Book Day, in case you didn't already know: http://www.freecomicbookday.com/
I don't know what's going on with me and my work. Sometimes it seems I definitely won't make it, and other times it seems I will. I only have a week left and then I'm done, though. When we had AP tests, our school gave us off for the rest of the day.

This is erm, unrelated to your entry, but er, remember the weirdo you talked with at Wellesley? *g* Yeah, this is her, just stopping by your journal and pestering you. Noticed that we had a few common interests, (YAOI! *squee*), and that made me grin even more. So anyway, I'd like to talk with you on AIM or something, and I hope you don't mind me friending you on LJ. You are a very kewl person, imho. ^-^ Besides, the nerds will rule the world!

Date: 2003-04-27 12:43 pm (UTC)I'm taking my AP on Free Comic Book Day! woo hoo! :D That is a very good sign (I took part one of a practice--I didn't have a calculator so I stopped there, and I only got one question wrong, so that's a good sign too ;)
Wow, just a week? That's good.
I think that luckily I've been getting more and more competent as we've gotten more and more work--because sometimes I get worried about finishing things, but I haven't really been completely overwhelmed or stressed out in a long time. Well, now that's kinda starting, but it is the AP crunch.
heh. . . we don't technically get off for the rest of the day (well, last year it was in the afternoon--this year they're both in the morning) but everyone is "sick". Actually, last year one girl gave in a note that said she was studying. ouch. lol.

Date: 2003-04-27 12:49 pm (UTC)Nerd power! :D
yay yaoi! You also have some interests that I've had at one point and have rotated out. . . I need more than 150 interests! Like slash. Yay slash! To me, slash is comic-book yaoi, although I guess it's just non-anime yaoi. . . comic books are the only place I run into it. So it holds a special place in my heart ;) (do I seem obsessed with comic books? lol.)
Hopefully I'll be able to go onto AIM soon. I need to teach myself about fluids now (I've finally gotten around to reading my Conceptual Physics book. ::sigh::). At least I have Hershey Kisses to eat while I do so.
Re:
Date: 2003-04-27 03:40 pm (UTC)A 150 interest-limit is far too little for a diverse person. ;)
Oh, and my explanation of slash versus yaoi is this. Yaoi is anime-related, and Japanese in origin; slash is basically every other fandom and non-anime aspect doped up on male/male love. Or 'lurve' as I tend to gurgle incoherently. *grins*

Date: 2003-04-27 04:56 pm (UTC)btw, Katie is looking over my shoulder, and she thinks you're cool. :D
I took Chem last year--I didn't like it as much. I actually do like physics, it's just that there's the AP coming up and things are getting bad. XP If we had a Chem AP last year I would have been sunk. I did well in the class, but I felt it was kind of luck. . . like, I was never sure exactly what was going on and I didn't have the firm grasp of the subject that I have for most of physics. There are just a couple things that are still fuzzy--especially the stuff that I read this break and we haven't gone over in class.
Oops. I started babbling there. I was typing really fast and having fun doing so, and then I got carried away ;) (when I type or talk to fast my brain can't keep up with my hands or mouth)
Your explanation of slash/yaoi sounds good. And then yaoi has that other more specific acronym definition, but for the most part people just use the general male/male thing. I think the specific one is like. . . that the plot comes second to getting characters in bed together :D (pwp anyone?)
Re:
Date: 2003-04-27 06:30 pm (UTC)And oooh, that's right! *shamefully forgot about the acronym* I feel so stupid...^-^;;...Y-A-O-I, how could I forget?
Wah, and your sister thinks I'm cool? *blushes* Ask her if she's a fan of Jane Eyre too, because I'm absolutely rabid about that book. Went home, pulled out my copy and starting reading again. *sighs* I love Jane/Edward so.
And from every thing else you said, it seems like you genuinely like science, which has me baffled. *chronic science-phobia* I suppose I like science in relation to technological development, because tech development always relates to some world situation and I'm a fanatic about current events and very active in my respective causes...but apart from that, I really shudder over these extensive mole-ratio problems I have to labor over. I DESPISE AVOGADRO AND ANY OF HIS NUMBERS.
So there. :D

Date: 2003-04-27 08:34 pm (UTC)I don't actually like science--it's only physics. I hate chem!! And I didn't really like bio. I had a cool earth science teacher so I got kinda fond of that (my chem teacher was sweet, I just don't like the subject). But I do love physics! I definitely don't plan on staying with science though. . . it's too brain-bending. But physics I'd been looking forward too. . . I like the explanations of why things are the way they are. . . I just don't like the math. owwies.
Katie loves Jane Eyre :) She read it a while ago, and then she got to read it for her summer reading assignment, and now she's reading it again. I'll try to hook you guys up on AIM or something--but she's not on very often.
OK. . . it's 11:30 and I need to take a shower XD oops. Damn school. lol.

Date: 2003-04-27 08:37 pm (UTC)lol. ok. now I'm really done!
Oh, but I love the background image on your journal! Who is it and who is it by?
Re:
Date: 2003-04-28 05:54 am (UTC)Background image on my journal is shamelessly stolen from John W. Waterhouse, at ArtMagick.com. It's something entitled, "Study for The Sorceress" and I borrowed it and put it somewhere on my webpage (loosely termed because I only use it to host pictures). A bit of HTML journal messing and voila! It became my journal's background. ^-^;
