I went into the city with dad today. Oh, but yesterday, the plans that I refered to vaguely--surprise party for Emily :D yay! It was a lot of fun, and she was very surprised. :) And we watched Lilo and Stitch--Perin's gift to Emily. I love that movie. I'm going to have to get it for myself. Ooooh--Katie still has her gift certificate to J&R! (I used mine on RUDY and Goonies) She might want to use it to buy that. Heh.

Speaking of buying, today was a very successful shopping day. First B&H for photo supplies--Katie is currently processing her film, so we had to get the stuff needed to do that. (we ascertained that Dust Off is indeed a serious product, but did not buy any. We also almost bought a travel-sized squeegee, but resisted. I did get free candy though!) Such a cool store. We actually got to go back on our way out, because it's right by Penn Station and Dad had forgotten the cleaner fluid, I believe.

After B&H we stopped by Dad's office and dropped off our stuff (we had a very large bag of photo stuff. rokkin!) (I don't know where that came from. I apologize ;) and let Dad take care of a few things, and we said high and took pictures of everyone ^_^ (everyone on dad's staff--not everyone in the whole building. lol. Dad's like, the Microfilm Director or something? lol.) Uhm. Right. After this we met our friend Rich and went to Chinatown--the Shanghai Snack Bar. Actually, officially it's Shanghai Dimsum, I think. Highly recommended--it's on Elizabeth St, if anyone's ever in Chinatown. It's between Bayard and Canal. I believe the Snack Bar (I don't know why we call it that, it really isn't a snack bar or anything, but whatever XD) is on the downtown side of the street, and you can read Shanghai Dimsum on the side of the white awning in red letters. Usually I get steamed dumplings, and they're fantastic, but I wanted to try something new. I can't remember the exact name of my dish, but it was spare ribs and these big fat tube-like white noodles and black bean sauce. It was very good, although the noodles were a bit salty. I think Rich's theory was that there was too much soy sauce, and he was the one who told me what it was, so he should know ;)

After lunch. . . heh. . . we went to two candy stores! XD Actually, one is the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. I've been going there for a long time, and even have an Ice Cream Factory shirt (as do Mom and Katie, causing some confusion) and have never bought ice cream from it. I made plans today to try something over the summer. I just get candy. They sell it by the quarter pound. I used to get sour belts, which is what Katie got, but a couple years ago I got too weak for those and now I just get milk chocolate :D Then we went to. . . "Dessert Paradise", I think was the name. Something like that. (we go there fairly often, I've just never looked before, I guess. and it says something else on the bags.) This is where we go for our strange candy. Actually, we get really normal stuff, comparatively--they have dried fish and all sorts of exotic things on the sides, but we fill our little bags from the middle, where they have normal stuff like milk candy, and champagne candy (both of which I got) and gummy hot dogs and hamburgers (which they were out of!!). This was my first time trying the milk candy--I decided to do a little experimenting--and it was quite good. "MILK-with Calcium In". XD

Back to the office, and then. . .

Midtown Comics. :D I got the latest Strangers in Paradise, as well as this week's comics. I feel like I got something else for myself. . . hmm. Ah well. Katie also got "Pocket Heroes"! Dr. Mid-night and The Atom (both Golden Age) to go with her Spectre and Dr. Fate. :D We'll have the entire JSA in no time ;) I wanted her to get The Flash vs. Captain Cold but she didn't want villains.

I also bought various gifts for people who may or may not read this, so I won't say anything about those now.

It was a very beautiful day. The weather was fantastic. Just being outside, especially in the sun, makes me feel rejuvinated. I had a fantastic day. My bag was a bit heavy on my shoulder but I still really enjoyed doing all the walking we did. We walked to and from Chinatown and then from Midtown Comics down to Penn Station. [aww! Katie found Dad's secret stash of teeny, tiny measuring cups!] It was just lovely and fantastic. The train was quite full, but we were all able to get seats. Me and Katie were actually next to each other, which was nice. We'd bought Mint Chocolate Chip shakes at Baskin Robbins to drink on the train (I got to finish off Katie's, too) and we began to read the comics. Also, I was sitting in the third seat, so I was kinda in the aisle, and we were facing backwards. Since we were in the last car, I could see out the back of the train, and there was a very beautiful sunset. :)

edit: I've noticed that I edit a lot of entries. Well, I'm very forgetful. lol. I forgot to tell you about the brilliant plan that Katie came up with in B&H. Brilliant. Here it is:

Our plan is to get lots and lots and lots of film, not pay for it--and leave it in the store!

We've already put it into action.

I also forgot to mention our good train/subway luck. Not only did we catch every train perfectly (we arrived as they were pulling up, except for the last one, but it was good that we waited cos it meant seats) we also did not have to pay for our trip into the city. MWAHAHA! LIRR is slacking. XD Well, sometimes you can ride a couple stops without them collecting tickets, but they always collect before and after Jamaica, from what I've seen. Today, however, Dad saw the train pulling in (note perfect timing) so he decided to buy the tickets on the train and pay the extra fee. heh heh. No conductor ever came around! Not only did we not have to pay; Dad had resigned himself to paying extra--and we got in free! :D (well, me and Katie. Dad has a monthly ticket so it didn't matter) Anyway, we were really pleased. That set the tone for the whole day :)
