i have a small confession to make. Which was interrupted somewhat ominously by an enormous clap of thunder. Dude. That was loud and sudden.

Anyway, I was going to say that I find product placement completely charming. I remember the first time I saw a placed product, I was totally delighted. It's like. . . I think on Scrubs, where they just reference recent pop culture trends, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (As opposed to the Young Justice version, making it Wendy the Werewolf Stalker--but I think that's sort of important to define the DC Universe, so it's different.) It creates a sort of realism. It makes the show more accessible, cos it's genuinely grounded it your cultural context. People really do drink name brand soda and wear name brand clothes. It's a cheap marketing ploy, I guess, but that's not what I think of. I think, "Yay! They drink Coca-Cola too! And not Generic Brown Soda!" So, yes. I like product placement. Unless it's distracting (which it obviously is, to hear me talk about it--but if they weren't using placed products, I'd start thinking about how unrealistic all the carefully generic stuff is).

The weather has gotten pretty intense.

anyway, to fill you in on the last couple of days. On Tuesday, Katie and I went to the Cloisters and had a fantastic time. It was just great. We were also taking her to her bus to Philly, and everything went off without a hitch. Which was awesome. The weather was fantastic. The Cloisters were beautiful--lots of flowers. We had plenty of time. We took a nice leisurely stroll through Fort Tryon Park (which is sort of what I mean when I say the Cloisters sometimes), took lots of pictures, saw lots of neat little paths. It was lovely! Then we had enough time to look at all the different courtyards at the Cloisters (apparently these are technically cloisters) and they were so beautiful! My god. One of them has all these little herb gardens, and all the plants are labelled with their medieval names, which are so cute and funny! And the garden was divided up into Culinary Plants, Medicinal Plants, Magical Plants, and. . . dang, what was the fourth? Oh! Plants used by Medieval Artists. Which was awesome. So that was really neat. This is a picture of that cloister last time, so you get an idea of what the cloisters look like. And all the cloisters (except for the one that was paved) were just stunningly gorgeous. With the sun shining down, and the paths, and the little trees, and the fountains. It was breathtaking. And we checked out the architectural sections of the museum--Katie taught me about groin vaults! And of course, we stopped by to say hello to tiny Jesus with a mission, also known as the Merode Altarpiece. Again, those pictures were taken on the last trip. Iw as not wearing a winter sweater this time. Aww, but I really love that shirt and I won't get to bring it to England. :( Anyway, the Merode Altarpiece had been moved, and was behind glass, and while we were enjoying it some stupid woman came with a tour group, and even though a large group of other people came in at the same time as her and her tour group, she was all "Make sure MY group can see!!" So no one else could. Not cool. I loff the Merode Altarpiece.

We got kind of sweaty on the way back, but we cooled down in the subway. We shared Katie's earbuds and listed to More Than a Feeling, by Boston. and lipsynched along. Good times! It was hilarious. And then we listed to the best song ever recorded: Alvin and the Chipmunks singing Mr. Tambourine Man. Also on the trip back, we ran into a creepy guy in the bushes. We thought (and so did a woman playing with her dog) that he might have been saying "Help" but when we went back to see if he was ok, he was sitting in a bush and he made a weird face and glared at us and didn't say anything.

Then we got to Port Authority an hour before Katie's bus left at 4. So we hung out. Then I was catching the 5:01 (my usual train when i was commuting) with Dad, so I went to Midtown Comics to waste some time. The stupid guy was blocking the Robin back issues with several boxes of books. XP And I went into the adult section for the first time, which was funny--but they didn't have any of Michael Manning's books. But I did get a TPB of the new Legion comic by Mark Waid and Barry Kitson. I love JLA Year One (by the same team) so i couldn't resist. I find the plot weird, but the characters charming and the art fantastic. So, I enjoyed it. And it was interesting, and I've never read much Legion. Although I've got a bunch of various Legion/L.E.G.I.O.N./whatever that I've been meaning to read.

And then on Wednesday I got my housing assignment for Manchester! YAAAAY! I also found out that Arcadia is going to buy me bedding. But I'm quite happy with my housing. I'm in Dalton-Ellis Hall, and the building (because, seriously guys, this labelling system is ridiculous. A group of about 15 buildings is a hall and one building is a block? That is exactly opposite! This is like the public/private school thing, isn't it?) is Ewings. Which is all women. XD There's no escape! But it's apparently an easy walk to South Campus and an easy bus ride to North Campus, which will hopefully be ok. And it's right next to the Dalton-Ellis Hall dining hall. The rooms aren't as nice as Smith rooms, but they look like Brandeis rooms. Apparently all the ones in Ewings have a washbasin in the room, which is exciting! And they all have ethernet cables which is extremely important!

I also found out that there's only one other person going to Manchester through Arcadia. Which is sort of funny, and unexpected.

Anyway, now Katie is home and I need a shower and we're having a big going away bash tomorrow. And I'm really sad about Katie leaving so soon. And really excited about going to Smith. And really. . . I don't even know. . . nervous and excited about going to Manchester.

Also, I have lots of new Band and Clash icons! :D For this entry you get the incomparable Richard Manuel!
