Mostly Animorphs and Myrna Loy
Jul. 8th, 2006 03:37 pmI really think Zooey Deschanel is very attractive. I find her really alluring. I just like looking at her, both in photos and on screen.
Speaking of attractive women, Myrna Loy is absolutely gorgeous. Jimmy Stewart has apparently said, "There ought to be a law against any man who doesn't want to marry Myrna Loy," and I don't know about the man thing, but I'm pretty much with him. She was supposed to be, like, the perfect wife, apparently based on her performances as Nora Charles? And maybe a couple other roles. Which I think is neat and funny because Nora isn't really like your typical ideal wife. Like, she's the ideal wife for both men and women, not just from the husband's perspective, cos she thinks for herself and is tough and cool and has a sense of humor. In any case, she's absolutely charming! It's funny because she might actually be someone that I would find creepy looking if I only saw photos of her, because of the way she sometimes looks up from under her eyes and the dramatic shape of her face, and those 30s eyebrows. But she makes it all work so well and is just incredibly beautiful. Stunning. Amazing. And she was a really cool person, an ardent democrat and a feminist. And she's so funny and charming, especially as Nora. I love the Thin Man movies. Katie and I just watched the third one, Another Thin Man--it's AMAZING! Hilarious and awesome. I thought the mystery was neat, a good plot. But what was truly spectacular was the characters. Nick and Nora were outstanding, of course, but there was also one of the best collections of supporting characters I've ever seen. A lot of great gangsters with awesome voices. I actually nicknamed someone at work whose name I don't know "Diamond Back Vogel," one of the aforementioned gangsters, cos it's such an awesome name and the guy at work has a similar accent to Vogel in the movie.
Also awesome: Animorph books! I used to read them like crazy when I was like, 11 and 12, and I still have a small collection. Katie and I were talking about them, so I checked them out, and now I've been rereading a couple. So awesome! They're actually really Buffy-esque. Really. They have very similar dialogue styles, and the same sort of "normal kids with powers fighting unnatural evil" thing. But mostly it's the charming and light jokes that the kids make that really makes it reminiscent.
Actually, anyone familiar with the books will probably have noticed that the books have sort of two extremes--they'll either be quite light and silly (although, of course, always with a serious undertone, cos they're still having to fight off an invasion) or very deep and serious. I'm pretty much just reading the former.
I'm actually still harboring significant crushes on both Jake and Tobias. I knew about the Jake thing, though--it's part of why I'm so absolutely in love with Bobby Drake! (They're portrayed by the same actor, Shawn Ashmore.) (Who was, at least at some point, and maybe still is, dating Michelle Trachtenberg.)
And now I need to go get something to eat.
Also! My plane tickets have been bought! I had a sudden moment of panic that the travel confirmation form for Arcadia was due on Monday, and it still might be, but I'll scan and email it as well as mailing it.
