children's literature reading
Jan. 12th, 2006 03:50 pmHere's the books we're going to read in my children's lit class. I'm making a list so I can keep track of them and maybe remember them.
First, picture books:
The Runaway Bunny (Brown); Harold and the Purple Crayon (Johnson); In the Night Kitchen (Sendak); Outside Over There (Sendak); Sylvester and the Magic Pebble (Steig); Grimm's Fairy Tales
Some of those I've read, some I haven't, but I know it won't take too long to read them.
Other books:
Tuck Everlasting (Babbitt)--just reread in preparation for class--I LOVE this book
Peter Pan (Barrie)--the play of Peter Pan! Very, very exciting. You may or may not know this, but Peter Pan is my favorite book, so it was very exciting to read the play, which I just finished
The Secret Garden (Burnett)--just reread for class--also a book I love (this is odd, I'm working my way down from the top--not on purpose, I assure you)
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass (Carroll)--the next book I'm going to read, mom got them from the library. I'm not a huge fan, but I've read them before
Pinocchio (Collodi, TRANSLATED BY HARDEN)--I don't think I've ever read this. . . I think I've just read Carlo Collodi short stories
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Lewis)--oh, I adore this book. The whole series, really. I can't find my copy, though, which is vexing. I've reread it within the past couple years, though. Or, actually, perhaps not--the books been missing for a while--but I've watched the BBC movies recently ;) I'll feel stupid buying myself another copy of this, but then again, I believe my book was falling apart, so it can't hurt.
The Giver (Lowry)--another book that I love! I haven't read it since we read it in school in sixth or seventh grade, but I'm looking forward to rereading it
Winnie the Pooh (Milne)-- :) I'm not sure if I've read this one or not, we seem to have a different Pooh book here. But, you know, I don't think it'll be any trouble!
Bridge to Terabithia (Paterson)--read in school, maybe 5th grade? Didn't like it. Oh well. I didn't hate it.
Holes (Sachar)--Never read, actually. But my mom (the children's librarian) says it's good
The Bad Beginning (Snicket)--only read the first 17 pages of it (in preparation to read it with the girl I was tutoring last year, but then she never brought it with her again), but I know our house owns a copy.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Rowling)--read it, probably won't reread it.
The Dark-Thirty : Southern Tales of the Supernatural (McKissack)--actually, I've read this book, too. Mom had it home from the library some years back. I'll reread it for class--the stories were very entertaining.
So, there you have it. Read almost all of the books already, reread a couple of them thus far, love most of them. :D
Oh, man--I love Peter Pan.
Oh, by the way--grades yesterday! :D I got a B+ in history of Rock, which makes sense, and an A- in German, which is super-exciting and nice, and an A in Religion!! YAAAAY! And
snortney08, who did me a huge favor and picked up my final for me (when I asked, I thought we wouldn't be getting our grades for another week) told me that I got 100% on the Religion final, which is so awesome! :D
I'm very relieved.
My pass/fail class hadn't gone through yesterday--I didn't have the credits for it, slightly worrying. But I checked just now and I passed. Whew! I was pretty sure I would, I got an A on the paper. The final was a bit up in the air, though--I got some names wrong. But, yay!
It's particularly a relief that I did so well in religion--I mean, it's always nice to do well in your major, and also in the class with your advisor. . . But last night I dreamt that said advisor yelled at me very cruelly in class! It stank! And I woke up at 7:30 AM and haven't managed to nap since. Sorta weird, really.
