guingel: (ballsy!)
so. . . I never posted when I got back from New Hampshire. It's been three weeks. Oops! Life is good, except that I'm not at ComicCon this weekend. :( I am, however, 19 today. :) I got a t-shirt that says "Nerd" and has a picture of the same little characters that are on the candy, and a dvd of sherlock holmes, and a book about early christianity, ad a led zeppelin poster!! Yay! So, a good birthday. And I think my parents have gotten me something (the dvd is from david and everything else is from katie).

anyway, i'm going to go take a shower but I just felt a little like communicating. bye bye!

ok, I'm going to try for an actual update.

lemme think.

I've been stressed about missing Katie, which I have been even though she's living in the same house as me. . . it's complicated, but I'm going to try to just relax about the whole thing.

I've become totally obsessed with the WB reality TV show "Beauty & the Geek". I thought it was horrible, but i watched their marathon the weekend before the aired the finale, because Katie was gone and I had nothing to do except watch trashy TV. Only, it wasn't trashy. I thought it was going to be a horrible, manipulative dating show, but it wasn't. The point of the show was for "beauties" and "geeks" to learn to be, like. . . more functional human beings. Each geek, all of whom were male and most of whom were Mensa members, etc, was paired (randomly, I think--I got the impression that the beauties chose their geeks, or something. . .) with an attractive young lady, most of whom had jobs like "beer spokesmodel" or "NBA dancer". Then, each week, both the beauties and the geeks would have to perform challenges, in which each person would learn something new. Like, one week the girls learned how to change a tire and the boys learned how to give a massage. And one week the girls were quizzed on 5th grade history and spelling sort of topics, and the guys learned to dance--so the partners help each other out. And the guys got to be more comfortable around women, and got more self-confidence, and the girls got more self-respect, and also learned to judge people based on their looks less, because all the partnerships got quite close, so then they were each friends with someone that they would never have been friends with. It was kind of totally awesome. And I loved almost all the geeks. I discovered the blog of Shawn, who was my favorite--totally sweet and laid-back and, well, totally adorable. It was fun because he was in the final three, and the other two geeks in the finals hated each other, so it was good to have someone so mellow as the third. Unfortunately, he didn't win, but neither did my least favorite geek (Richard, if anyone else watched the show). Of course, I really like Richard's partner, Mindi, partly because she was so good to put up with him the whole time--he looked like a handful.

Anyway, so, that's been fun and amusing. But I've been kind of annoyed with some of the comments on Shawn's blog. People keep telling him that they don't think he was a geek. . . and even the ones who don't say that seem to think that it's a bad thing. I've been getting kind of agitated. There are other stupid things, too. None of my business, and I've been keeping my mouth shut, but it's a bit annoying.

I've also been re-watching the library's tapes of the old BBC movies of the Narnia books. Well, of the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Caspian, Dawn Treader, and Silver Chair--those are the only ones they made. They're all excellent. I've gotten up to Silver Chair and it might just be the best of the four. Although really, they're all good. Dawn Treader is just amazing and cool. Mom's been watching them with me and it's been a lot of fun.

Work's been mostly ok. On Tuesday we're having a big party for everyone who particpated in our building code re-writing process. It's about 450 people total, but we should only have about 150 at the party. Luckily I'll be at the sign-in table for the first two hours, so I won't have to try and make conversation. . . I don't know what I'll do after that. >.> And I don't know what I'll wear.

My part of preparing for this has been to craft a power point presentation that will be cycled constantly throughout the evening, and I showed it to my boss on Friday and he really liked it, so I'm pleased. ^_^

I have gifts from New Hampshire for roommate!Corey and friend!Carly that I still haven't sent, so I have to do that soon. Actually, Corey is in Europe, and I don't know when she'll be getting back. Before she left, though, she shipped me my birthday presents!! An awesome straw cowboy hat thingie--it's so cool. I adore it. And it's really comfortable! And she sent me the t-shirt that we had made to commemmorate our time as roommates, it's got all our inside jokes and stuff on it--very, very awesome. It turned out great. I've been wearing it every chance I get, I just love it. :D

So, uhm, I think that's about it. I bought two new Yes CDs on Friday, the Yes Album and Yes (which is their first album). :D

Oh, I also read the first book of Ash: A Secret History while in NH, and have since bought the entire book from Amazon UK. So I'll have to finish that sometime soon. I've also been rereading all the Freddy the Pig books, though, and those are from the library, so it's slightly more pressing. They go fast, though ;)
