warm fuzzies :)
Feb. 4th, 2003 08:49 pmawww! someone did something really sweet, so I thought I'd share it.
I was inducted into the National Mathematics Honors Society today. It sounds very prestigious, doesn't it? hahaha. lol. I mean, you need a grade requirement to get invited, but beyond that, anyone who turns in an application is accepted ;) I think. lol. But it was nice and it's something that looks good, probably. (college is on my mind these days) It was combined with science.
Anyway, since Katie. . . ::sigh::. . . did not hand in her application, and Zhara couldn't go, I was the only one of my friends there. No one else who I'd really talk to. I lurked next to a pair of academons boys, but that was coincidence--I swear. This was before the ceremony, when the inductees were waiting in the commons to proceed (we were in all rows and order and all) to the auditorium. So I was just kinda standing by myself for a bit, probably looking awkward. (lol--I didn't feel as awkward as I would have a year ago, but nonetheless) So this boy, Derrick, came over and introduced himself! And there were people there that he could have talked to, he wasn't just coming over out of boredom or anything. He knew who I was, but we hadn't met before. (people hear of us, me and Katie, because we're both at like, the top of the class, and we're twins) Derrick is also a twin, and his sister was in my chem class last year. He's doing the middle show, which is Midsummer Night's Dream this year.
So he came over and said hi and introduced myself, and he asked me about how I was and how school was. And he asked me about my teachers, three of whom were actually standing right behind us. O.o It was weird. Well, my physics and math teachers were there for the induction, but my english teacher had just come by and was talking to them! And then we talked about Friedman, and what a moron he was, and academons, and classes next year, and art and majors and careers and then we were talking about comic books and anime briefly, and then we were getting started, so that was it. I thought it was really nice of him to come over and talk to me :D He was really sweet.
If anyone's been waiting for my physics grade, lol, I have part one--the multiple choice. Part 2 takes a while because if you make a mistake early on she grades it correct based on error--so she has to work out the problems with all of the errors we make (for example, once I plugged in height instead of velocity!!) as well as generally decipher what we've written. ::winces:: I don't envy her.
Anyway, the grading is a bit complicated. Out of 70, I got 10 wrong and 58 right, and I didn't answer 2. With -.25 for each question wrong and +1 for each right (I think that's it) I end up with a 55.5 out of 70 (to give you an idea of what this is compared to the class, no one got above 60 points on part 1). This becomes a 71 out of 90, which is the final grade for part one. Part two is worth 90 points as well, and Miss R says that last year, the cut-off for a 3 on the AP, which is basically that you have a satisfactory understanding of the subject (the highest is 5) was a 75/180. So I think I'm ok. . . I hope I did well on Part 2. Or adequate. :-/ She says that to get the same grade on the AP as we did on the midterm, we have to do more work, because there's going to be so much more material. Like, 66% more, I think.
Oh, and we took a regents midterm on friday, and I got all of. . . 1 wrong on that. :D woo hoo! I was pleased. I still ended up with an 100 somehow. lol.
