Fun Bible Trivia Part 5! (also short life update)

Sorry for the lack of Bible trivia yesterday. :D I was busy having a mini-adventure! [livejournal.com profile] ayamachi wins for being my partner in crime. We met in Williamsburg and went to McCarren Park and from there we wandered into Greenpoint. It was cute and quite Polish. I bought (aka Susan bought for me, since I'd forgotten my wallet) some wacky meat flavoring mix. And I took the G for the first time! I guess I'm forever tainted now. But the parts of Williamsburg that we were in weren't too hipstery. Anyway, then we went to Pratt! :D My dad went there and so did my mom's sister (which is how my parents met) so it was really fun to see the campus. ^_^ He was really excited when I told him where I was. I was just excited to be back on a college campus!

So, mini-adventure was totally awesome. It was really fun just exploring. I love that sort of thing. We didn't get lost at all, which was good, but. . . somehow disappointing. XD I almost got us lost, but Susan has a better sense of direction than I do (so does, say, a rock). Anyway, I did my best.

I've been in a good mood lately, too. Well, and why not! I had a mini-adventure, I chatted a bit with awesome!roomate last night: yay! She's so great to live with. And today work was, well, exciting? I did some good stuff and made a mistake but it was ok and I printed to a big label by taping it to an envelope and telling the computer that it was an envelope and then carefully peeling up the tape. And my boss and I also chatted and it was nice.

ANYWAY! To make up for missing it yesterday, an extra amazing bit of Bible trivia today. I can't believe I didn't think of this one til now. XD

So, Joseph and Potiphar's wife? Genesis 39? A bit more going on than meets the eye. I now have my Harper Collins Study Bible (HCSB) at the ready so I can tell you the following is from the NRSV translation.

Joseph, having been sold/abandoned by his brothers, has been purchased by Potiphar, a wealthy Egyptian:
39:4 - So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him; he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had.

As the story continues, Potiphar's wife also takes a fancy to Joseph and tries to seduce him, and Joseph refuses because he doesn't want to betray Potiphar.

Yeah, so. "Attended him." Based on the context and what we know of euphemisms of the time, this probably means that Joseph and Potiphar had naughty relations of some sort. And then Mrs. Potiphar was not just attracted to Joseph's boyish good looks, she was also jealous of his swift rise in the household and the position of power that he held over her husband.

This interpretation of events has been pretty neatly covered up by history. And Andrew Lloyd Webber!
