Hey, cats and kittens! I've been posting a bit at Mark Waid's new forum. It's fun and interesting, but an intimidating place, full of comic pros and generally intelligent people. Additionally, I haven't participated in an online comic book community before and generally am not hugely up to date on events. I'm doing my best to just keep my mouth shut about things I don't know. The problem of going to a forum with no obnoxious idiots is that there's no one there to make you look good!
Also, I haven't been a regular member of a forum in at least 5 years. I may have posted in a forum in the intervening time, but quite possibly not.
Hey, continuing my "creepy interactions at work" streak, a member of the custodial staff gave me candy yesterday. He's an incredibly sweet little old man with a quiff, but I was still like "what am I doing?" Oh well. It was a delicious tootsie roll, and I was a bit hungry!
Anyway, I'm also posting at the forum as guingel, for a variety of reasons. It just feels really weird because I would say 75% of the other posters, especially the regular ones, are using their real names, in whole or in part. If I used my real name, I'd never be able to make reference to the forum elsewhere, I'd have to keep it separate from my online activity. I could have used just "Laura," but on the internet guingel already has an identity, albeit an under the radar one. Nonetheless, you search for guingel, you get me. Even if you search for my full name in quotes, only one or two of the results are actually me. So it just seemed to make a lot more sense to go as guingel. It just feels odd! I guess it's because around half of them (I think fans are starting to filter in more now) are pros so they might as well use their real names.
At any rate, it just feels a little odd, and usually I'm totally comfortable as guingel. I guess it's a little "what are you trying to hide?" but actually it's more open of me to use guingel! Since it could lead people here, where they will read this post and learn that I think too much. They would also probably cotton on to the fact that I like to talk about myself. Is this the second time I've said "cotton on" in as many days? I'm pretty sure it is.
I used to have separate names for different parts of the internet. I was one thing on oekaki boards, one thing on AIM, and one thing on LJ. Guingel has taken over now, as I use it for chatting, LJ and email. . . I can't remember what I was on forums. I think the same as oekaki boards.
One hour (minus 10 minutes writing this entry) of lunch and 2.5 hours of work left before I go home to interview the latest potential roomie. I wish I'd slept more last night! I blame New Frontier for this. Which, Susie-Q, is colored by Dave Stewart. XD (Btw I'm nicknaming you Susie-Q, apparently.) Anyway, then. . . three day weekend! Of which I was unaware, making it snow day-esque!
I guess I'll stop talking before the subject becomes inaccurate.
