brief ramones interlude
Jan. 14th, 2006 12:53 amso, i'm watching Conan and watching End of the Century: The Story of the Ramones for the second time during the commercials--and the Max Weinberg 7 actually played "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" as the music right before the commercial! XD I was very excited. It was like, "wait. . . 'the kids are all hopped up and ready to go'? why am I humming that? hey--that's the Ramones!" I was hugely amused. Also, it's pretty awesome to hear a saxophone arrangement of the Ramones.
Also, I love what the band plays all the time cos it's often classic rock that I recognize. But I was just thinking, "well, if they like classic rock, they might not like the Ramones"--I forget that they don't really always go together, cos the Ramones are actually punk. But they really do have that classic rock 'n' roll sound--rock 'n' roll before it stopped rolling. (I don't know, I've just always felt that rock 'n' roll is sort of--it sort of turned into rock in the 70s. But what do I know, I just got a B+ in History of Rock XD) Anyway, the point is, the Max Weinberg 7 rocks--they play a lot of Zeppelin, and Conan is obviously a Zep fan cos he sings along sometimes.
p.s. quentin tarantino is a total freak. oh my god. he was on conan last week or something, and it was. . . so painful to watch. He was a total ass, and also just really stupid. I was sort of embarassed for him. He talked very loud and fast about stupid and somewhat offensive things. (i thought of this because he's on Carson Daly tonight and there was an ad.) But, geez. Also, uhm, incredibly ugly. I mean, he made Conan look good.
When I said "post script" there, I guess I meant. . . post the first two paragraphs?
But, anyway, the Ramones are awesome. I just love all the Queens accents in that movie. Johnny (or should I say, "Jawhnny"?) in particular is really good. Dee Dee's voice is. . . more or less dead. I don't know if it's because of the huge amounts of drugs he did or what--but I'm assuming that is the reason for his haggardness. And Tommy is from Hungary originally, so I don't know if it's that, but his accent is less Queens. And Joey's voice is sorta out of the ordinary. Marky's is great, too, though. Mawky, as Katie and I have been saying constantly.
Apart from the accent education, I really do just love the Ramones' music. So fast, so fierce. And the lyrics are so awesome! "I don't wanna walk around with you." Man, that's gotta be the fucking best song to play to someone to break up with them. Oh, shits--I wanna call a radio station, and request that they play it for my special someone. "And this next song is from Laura to her cuddle bunny. . ." and then you'd hear "I don't wanna walk around with you! So why d'you wanna walk around with me?"
ok, i actually have nothing to say on the subject, but I just wanna talk about them. If you were here, maybe I'd be talking about them in my new Queens accent. ax-ent, that is.
also--jeeeez, i really don't like Alice in Wonderland. I knew I wasn't fond of it, but I didn't realize how much I really hated it. Ugh. I don't like the complete illogicality of all the characters, it infuriates me. And then whole thing is too weird. And it's just sort of randomly weird. I have a warm affection for the humor of the absurd, but obviously within limits--and it needs, like, a background of normalcy? The book just feels like some kid trying to be funny by putting in all these crazy situations--but better written. Also, I didn't remember how annoying Alice herself is. Stupid, stupid brat. Blaaaaaah.
I neeeeeed to shower.
And do laundry and pack. I go up to Smith on Wednesday and then head straight out to Brandeis until Monday. Then I have a week at Smith. Oh, crap! I want to send Corey her birthday present, and her birthday is in 5 days, and there's still a part of the present that I haven't gotten. Poop. Oh well. She'll be home for a while--I mean, she's going away for a couple days so I actually have until the 21st to get it to her. And then she won't be coming to Smith for a little while.
edit: haha, nevermind. her birthday is 12 days later than I thought. I am a bad friend. XD
EDIT: OK, so now it's Monday the 16th and I am again watching Conan, and Elijah Wood is on, and when he came out he said "'Sheena is a Punk Rocker'! Nice!" :D YAAAY! Go Elijah Wood for having good taste in music and for mentioning a Ramones song on tee-vee. That makes me very happy. He went on to talk about crazy LotR fansites in an extremely good-natured way! Very impressive, as the websites in question were "Elijah Wood is very very gay" and websites where they do those photomanips ("of characters engaging in sexual congress," in his words) and he was very complimentary of their skill in realistically placing his head on a nude body, so I thought that was pretty nice of him.
And then Conan mentioned Conan vs. Bear so that was hilarious and entertaining, much like the website itself!
